25th Anniversary Box Set
« on: 12 April 2012, 10:16:26 »
I noticed some very old topics on this, and I figured since my take on it
has a very different twist, that a new thread was appropriate.

When this box set came out I got one because "Hey, 25th Anniversary, Have to get it."
But I never opened it.

Up until recently, I was a die hard old school Battletech collector. By that I mean,
I only had the old stuff by FASA, and the Ral Partha Minis to go with it.
And by the way, if anyone is interested, I have compiled a complete list
to include every RP part number that was reused, some as many as 3 times.

Anyway, a few weeks ago, I decided to actually open the box and see what it
had in it. I mean this thing is HUGE, and HEAVY. So curiosity won.

I do have some minor complaints, as everyone always does. But I have to say
for the price, over all this was an incredible box set, and I would go so far as to say
the best game box set I've ever seen. And I have a LOT of different games.

The Maps are outstanding, I would love to see more of them.
And the thoroughness of the included rule books, and various guides
was impressive, every one of them contributes to the set.

The standard set of 24 minis , I have to say is the only place I was
disappointed in any way. They are nice, but for today's technology
these could have been better quality. And the proof is in this very box.
The Thor mech is a one piecer, and it is exceptional. With this quality,
all minis could go to plastic and I would enjoy them.

And the Loki? Well this is why I am posting here.  This single miniature
has bridged the gap between Old School Battletech and the new "Classic"
Battletech.  Not only did I love this model, and very much hope to see more
like it. But because of it, I have decided to expand my collection and gaming
into the new age of BT.

I have a lot of catching up to do. And I hope my knowledge and Experience from the original
game will be helpful here.

Color me interested. :)
The coverage on Miniatures on the Sarna.net BattleTechWiki is woefully incomplete and shallow. It's a huge field, and so far apparently nobody cared enough, or had enough knowledge and love for the details. Myself, I was never too much into the miniatures side of the game.
Therefore, I'd like to invite you to contribute on Sarna.net and improve our coverage on the miniatures.

Thanks, I took a quick glance, and it looks like the site covers a lot of info.
I dont have time at the moment to get a better look, but I will
when I get the chance. And more than happy to help out
any way I can.

I was trying to find a list, or check list format of some kind and did not see it.
Which is how mine is set up.

But if you did not notice, what I have is for the old FASA sourcebooks, and
Ral Partha Miniatures from that time period, so 1984 to 2000.

Now that I am delving into the Classic Battletech though, I will be adding
new pages to my list, to include all of the new sources and minis. Which hopefully
will not be as hard to track down.  :)

Welcome back. Since you like the new maps I thought I would let you know about the 2 hexpacks out.

2 double sided maps and a bunch of punch out extra hexes of the same quality so you can change the maps to your preference. The first one is lakes and streams, the next one is cities and towns.

The next one thats coming out is the mountains pack.

Makes you wonder what will come after the Mountains pack? Swamps and Fens? Deserts and Buttes? A Solaris Map pack? I can't wait to find out.  ;)
I don't set an example for others. I make examples of them.

The Map Packs are definitely priorities for me.
Although I have a much bigger problem...
As my kids call it. I suffer from "Gamers OCD"
I cant play a game, and not have all info and sources.

So first, I must compile a true list, of every sourcebook
that has been brought out for Classic Battle Tech, as well
as a complete list of miniatures.

Which means more research.... It took me until very recent
to finally complete my FASA list. I sure hope this part goes
a little easier. Then , Where to begin on Miniatures.  Especially
now that there are new categories , like Battlespace Minis, and
Battleforce Scale!!!!  I sooo need to win the lotto.....
