MWO Linebacker announced!
« on: 07 July 2016, 14:08:11 »

Linebacker

The pod space (17.5 tons) is quite limited, considering that the Cauldron-Born has 30 tons available. I am not sure if those 10 km/h are worth it ...

Well, the TRO original has similar legs.

The actual game model may be slightly different.

Rather soon for the Linebacker. I thought Phelan Kell (Ward/Kell/Ward/Kell-Ward/Ward-Kell) commissioned it.

The Linebacker is from 3052, so it's okay.

This looks nothing like a Linebacker, save the side torsos.

Granted, the art for the LB is wonky, but I think this is too much of a departure.
Change up the side torsos, and this could be an entirely new mech design.

I can recognize it as a Linebacker, but I think this art is closer to the Timberwolf (which it was originally designed to replace) then being an oversized Adder like the canon Linebacker art.

It's a cool looking 'Mech, overall, it's just that the feet really do look like they're pointing the wrong way.  It's like it's twisted at the torso to face completely backwards.

I definitely recognize it as a Linebacker.  This ought to be an interesting ride in MWO.

It's too tall. It lacks the hunched look that is the signature of the Linebacker.

PGI offers Prime, A, B, C and D configurations, so check your record sheets.

The "Red Line" Hero 'Mech will have 1B hardpoint in the right arm, 2E in the right torso, 3E in the left torso and 1M in the left arm.

I guess that it will be the same case as the Black Hawk: Either you will build it as pure laser boat, or you will use one ballistic weapon and throw in some lasers. Only the "D" configuration has four missile hardpoints, but you will be limited on ammo and backup weapons.

that's the main problem yeah. the linebacker's head is too flat though. and the torso hardpoints are meant to have doors on 'em sometimes..

doesn't matter too much, giant locked-in engine means it's D.O.A. if it wasn't so tall because of the hips it might have a niche, but as is too bad. i'm quite fond of this particular clan omni normally.

Looks like they used Jenner center-toros and build around it.  Linebackers look little better than this.

What year is it now in game?

Honestly, I don't know. There were some resets of the timeline and jumps. So perhaps in 3053 or 3054?

We have had two - or three? - Battles of Tukayyid so far.  :) And when I am thinking about it, the in-game year has practically no importance anyway.

So my answer is: We are somewhere in the Clan Invasion era, between 3050 and 3060.

Given that Lineback is a 3055 baby, some of the units from that book may start appearing. With the Clan Omnis, they'll need be careful balancing things out.  Inner Sphere will start getting new mechs too, like the Penetrator and Gunslinger.  However, depending how the weapons work out is another matter i guess.

I can't imagine they'll add to many soon due to the issues they'll get.  Alot these mechs lately been heavy-ish.

I have found it:

This year we are in 3053.

They need to drop the double-jointed ankles to make up for some of the the height gained by adding a lower torso.

I had a couple, but most have gone to free up bays.  I got rid of the P for the AC20 version by accident, but prefer IS mechs.  I may branch out to Clan mechs soon.  The Ebon Jag is a good one, but its the only Heavy I have right now.

where is the story fluff that usually comes with a new design for MWO?

That worked great for the Nova, I'm not really sold on it for the Linebacker. I'd like it much better if it was shorter.

Maybe in a week or two. Sometimes you have to wait.
