(Answered) Breached Leg Effects
« on: 23 February 2017, 23:35:33 »
Hi,

We had a case where a shutdown mech with exposed leg armor was pushed into a Level 1 water hex. The result is a brick of the leg.

For PSR and MP is this considered:
1.  Same as a hip crit
2.  Leg destroyed

The case for leg destroyed were:

When a Hip receives a critical hit the hip locks up as well as all the other actuators.  It becomes a rigid member.

When a leg becomes breached the items in the location become non-functional.  Not damaged.  They don’t work.  It becomes limp.

Second case in point from page 121 of TW
If a side torso is flooded, the corresponding arm and all it’s equipment are considered non-functional as well.

It says right there the arm doesn’t work.  You could have a torso with nothing in it and if it’s breached the arm stops working.

Therefore the leg would have to stop working too.  It’s still there.  It can still take damage, but you cannot use it as a peg leg because it is NON FUNCTIONAL.  You can’t take the benefit of the critical hit when specifically says “these effects are not technically critical hits”

Therefore all PSRs would be as if the leg were destroyed.  Same as with MP

Thanks
MM

Mopar, what are your actual questions, thanks? They're not apparent from your post.

Thanks,

W.

W.

I thought it was clear in the title but I'll try again.

If a mech's leg is breeched with water, for the purposes of PSR and movement, is the leg considered to have a hip critical (1/2 MP, +3PS) or leg destroyed (MP reduced to 1, +5PS)?

The rule is on page 121 of Total Warfare.

Thanks
MM

As per p. 121, treat all components in the leg as non-functional, but not destroyed.  Therefore the leg is not considered destroyed, but a previously undamaged 'Mech would suffer the cumulative effects of a hip, upper leg, lower leg and foot criticals - with associated PSRs to remain standing.  In following turns, apply only the effect of a hip critical (as per TW, p. 127) - the leg is considered to be locked in the straight position.
