Vigilant as a retrotech jumpship
« on: 02 April 2017, 17:18:02 »
I have a lot of different projects rattling around in my head at any given time. One is a sort of reboot of the setting that, well, it's a lot to explain. Anyway one of the ideas for the setting was to remove standard jumpships and warships and instead use the primitive/retrotech jumpship rules for all interstellar needs.

As part of that, I wondered what would happen if I tried to cram canon warships into primitive jumpship hulls. The vigilant here is my first attempt. In addition to being a retrotech vessel with a depressing jump range (I'm hoping to give most of the hegemony ships a 20 light year jump range) it also incorporates a few additions that I intend to make fairly standard in the setting.

Good news is the lab boys say the symptoms of asbestos poisoning show an immediate latency of 44.6 years. So if you're thirty or over you're laughing. Worst case scenario you miss out on a few rounds of canasta, plus you've forwarded the cause of science by three centuries. I punch those numbers into my calculator, it makes a happy face.

Not bad. I forget how much cargo the original had, but I don't recall it being much.

The cargo capacity listed in TRO3057 doesn't appear to be accurate. I know the mass listed for the ammo is way off (too much for the naval cannons, too little for that huge missile bay). But even correcting for that, the canon vigilant should have more cargo. Or at least the primitive core and other changes didn't leave me with as little cargo as the original entry suggested.
