Shilone SL-23
« on: 19 October 2017, 03:28:17 »
A circa 3075 Shilone design intended as a heavily armored LRM/LL gunboat, for thoughts, suggestions, and consideration.

One or more possible design quirks I've also considered are as follows: Variable Range Targeting Quirk, Atmospheric Flyer, Internal Bomb, Stable

Not bad . Not sure but does er med lasers go to medium range in aerospace ? If not pulse lasers might be better. I would lose all but one ER large laser and LRM 20  install 4 medium pulse lasers and 2 small pulse lasers. Lose 6 heat sinks and add 5 tons of armor . By 3075 manufacturers look at the Clans as an opposition force bringing as many locations to 65 points for a 7 threshold number so a Clan med laser will not have an crit potential . With 2 small pulse lasers set for point defense can reduce an incoming missile attack by 3 points each . Say both fighters attack each other head on at short range . Your configuration would do 42 points of damage with 2 possible threshold crit potentials my suggested configuration would also do 42 points of damage with 6 possible critical potentials . This is assuming the small pulse lasers in point defense mode will reduce the LRM 20 salvo from 12 points of damage to 6 .

ER Medium Laser are medium range, while Medium Pulse Laser are short range.

Not sure I understand the rest of what you were trying to say, but I'm also not much of an rules/technicalities optimizer. The idea here was that this would be intended as a long-range/stand-off type of fighter, with the rear-firing ERMLs being an improvement over the original SRM-4.

Point-defense of some kind instead of the wing ERMLs does make some sense - if you're planning to fight at LRM ranges, why not nerf the other guy's LRMs?

The Inner Sphere for Aerospace has very few advantages over Inner Sphere but it has some . The Light Gauss Rifle is actually best in Aerospace combat as the get the extended range bracket has 16 shots for a single ton and does 8 points of damage which is enough to break the threshold  on 85 percent or more of Aerospace Fighters . The small pulse laser can be either a attack weapon or point defense . On the Strategic side Inner Sphere Aerospace units are E grade tech while Clan tech is F . I seem to remember whichever side wins initiative tends to determine opening range .  Every aerospace design should have point defense and as much armor you can spare .
