Miniature of the Fortnight #23: Jenner
« on: 13 August 2017, 20:16:03 »
This fortnight we look at the Jenner, (not) named for the villain in the animated movie The Secret of NIMH.  The Jenner is a trademark 'Mech of the Draconis Combine and is one of the better known (and notorious) 3025 'Mechs.  There is apparently not a modern 'Mech of the Week article written for it so you'll just have to figure out how it handles on its own.

There are three metal sculpts I am aware of:The plastic model available in the recent introductory boxes and CGL's Pursuit Lance Pack are based on the beginners set sculpt.

Please post any miniatures you'd like to share!  We'd all love to see them.

As always, thank you for reading and a special thank you to those who share!

Our next fortnights will be:
  • Clan (8/27): Gargoyle (Man O' War)
  • Inner Sphere (9/10): Templar

Love the Jenner!  8)  Here are my two.  One painted up in the colors of the Ceti Hussars, and an IWM beginners Jenner with what I guess is Kell Hounds colors (wasn't my plan, but it came out looking that way.)

Very nice -- I've always loved the Jenner as a workhorse 'Mech. I'm going to post some more later on, but to start, Here's an edited version of a pic I'd posted a while ago.

These are two Jenners from the 352nd Combat group, my homebrew mercenary unit. They're Red 2 and Red 3, piloted by Ramakrishna "Rabbit's Foot" Rajnapuram and Kaitlyn "Dit-Dah" Morse. Morse's Jenner is actually missing the SRM 4-Pack, which is replaced by 3 tons of communications equipment, and (IIRC, I don't have her 'mechs stats at hand ) some additional armor. She and Rajnapuram use this equipment to try and jam opponents' communications with ancient Terran punk rock -- it's admittedly hard to concentrate on combat when the Dead Kennedys, or Germs, or Sex Pistols or Weirdos are suddenly blowing your eardrums out...  ;D

And nice work there!

Wasn't going to post this until after I rebase it on a proper base, but Bruce here is Grace Shiro's mech from Sword and Dragon. Mini is just a JR7-D I had spare though.

There are two Jenner currently painted by me. One for the Genyosha and the other one for the 2nd Nightstalkers.
I assume the Jenner IIC will be covered in another MotF ?

I have seen very early Jenners with split toes and more a walking pose as well. Anyone else?

The hour when earth's foundations fled,         They stood, and earth's foundations stay;
Followed their mercenary calling,               What God abandoned, these defended,
And took their wages, and are dead.             And saved the sum of things for pay.

The split toes part does not sound familiar, but the walking pose does...

There are three metal sculpts I am aware of:The plastic model available in the recent introductory boxes and CGL's Pursuit Lance Pack are based on the beginners set sculpt.
The original 1987 sculpt of the Jenner shares the same number (20-869) as the 2nd sculpt, which does not have a date on the base. The right leg is forward on the original, and the SRM ports are one panel lower (immediately above the 3x4 "vents") on the original as well--the 2nd sculpt has them on the angled panel. Other differences you'd only see when comparing the two main sculpts side-by-side. The resculpt's torso is a millimeter or two wider and the head is about 1mm larger in diameter. I don't have sculptors recorded for either, nor can I make out the initials under the bases. The beginners set sculpt is a modified version of the 2nd sculpt.

Luciora's first picture has the first, plastic, and second sculpt (left to right). Agen's post shows four of the first sculpt.

Did an quick check on ebay for blisters. The 2nd sculpt was done by Phil Lewis and has a thin, hexagonal base.

Here is a shot of the 1st sculpt's base. If anyone recognizes the sculptor's initials, please speak up.
edit: 1st sculpt was done by Julie Guthrie. (I ask a question intending to leave it be, but I can't. I just keep digging until I find the answer.)

Not an official sculpt, here's my Map-Scale kitbash.

Close-up, and shot of it on the map.

The paint scheme was for a vanity merc unit that I started early in my BT career.

I'm terribly late to the party as well.

Nightstalkers from late 2017 (20-869), Legion of Vega from years ago (Box Set plastic) and 1st St. Ives Lancers from 2015/16 (from 10-041).

Planning on doing a bunch in various camos for my Amphigean force, once I work through my current backlog (in a decade).
