For the record? THIS is an example of a perfect Con LE mini. O0

I agree.  The Omega miniature looks amazing.   I didn't think we'd ever get one, let alone so soon.

Will I pay the extra $15 to pick up one at Origins tomorrow?  Yes, yes I will.  I can't wait to paint this thing! :giddy:

As for size, sure everyone wants it to be to scale, but in the end we still need to fit on a Hex Base afterall. If it has to be scaled down to make it fit (barely), I can live with that.
I don't set an example for others. I make examples of them.

Other diffrence is, is that people pay to attend those con's. So in the end there paying even more for the mech, just to get in and get it!

People are paying to attend the Cons anyway.  I don't see anyone being so In Awe of the OMEGA that they'll pay to attend a Con JUST to buy one!   :o  I realize there's some Serious BT Fanboys out there, but really?  :D

So, aside from getting it in Clamshell packaging, with a record sheet, what's the Plus Side of buying it at one of the Cons?  Bragging rights?  And Pardon me asking, but isn't a "Sale Price" usually Less Than the regular price?  ???   Offering it for $15 MORE at Origins than it will be after Gen Con seems to Invalidate this sentence from the announcement.

If I were able to make it to a Con, I'd gladly pay extra to have an Omega right now, as opposed to waiting months for it.

As for going to a Con simply for the Omega, that's certainly not relevant to me. If I can go to a con with lots of Battletech, I'm going, Omega or no. If I can't go to the con, the presence of an Omega won't magically change that.

It's out of scale based on the rule saying it is 3 levels high. If you take the Atlas as the "gold standard" for 100 tons, it's way too big, in terms of over-all volume. It looks like it is at *least* twice as wide and twice as deep (front to back). That suggests close to a 4x mass increase, rather than 50%, as suggested by game stats.

If it helps, you could consider 2 levels being the height of an 'average' battlemech, with the big assaults actually standing noticeably above it, just not enough to warrant a rules change. The Hunched posture of the Omega would then make it the bottom end of the super-heavy height range, and not much taller than an Atlas.

That shaping issue is a common problem with chicken walker / pod shaped 'mechs. They tend to get sculpted to be close to the height of the humanoids, and should really be shorter (in many cases), to preserve the same overall volume. Quads are sometimes even worse.

But that is the problem the Atlas isn't the gold standard fluff wise is not the tallest mech to start with

That looks cool.
But for that price I would want it to be half again as tall as that Atlas.
Not the same size as a SuperHeavy CAV at twice the cost.

Hmmmm.
Time to go figure out a parts list to bash one.

In fairness though CAV prices are kept down because Reaper is now using it's P-65 lead formula on them.

That said I have no problem with the cost the thing is a wide son of a gun so I am sure it uses  a lot of pewter.   But once I am paying that much for one mini I might as well get correct scale.

My point is that height is a terrible measure. A humanoid 'mech that was actually 50% taller than your choice of 'properly scaled' hundred ton 'mech should weigh over 300 tons. Configured into a pod 'mech, like the Omega at the same height, it would have to be something like double that!

My claim is that "level 2" should map to the height of an average 20-100 ton battlemech, which should be a 50-70 ton'er. Big assaults should already be towering over that, but the game rules lack the granularity to model it.

In any case, I love the sculpt, and I am happy with the scale. I will very likely pick one up at Gencon.

Except that in Battletech weight has nothing to do with height.

It is a nice mini I am sure I will pick one up.  Just saying once I pay that much I might as well pay the extra and get it done right.  Just my opinion

Correct. Also in Battletech, a mini's height has nothing to do with its height in game terms; a 'Mech mini that is half as tall as another is still the same 2 levels in height for game purposes.

Hey,

Some of you are so exacting in your demands for perfection but the "50% taller than the Atlas" crowd are sooooo far off in their perceptions!  This is already a 200+ ton mech by its current sculpting - way over the 150 tons it is supposed to be.  To be that much taller AND maintain the appearance of the art would make this a 400+ tonner!  Seriously, take as an example, a 100 ton mech - preferably chicken-legged and a 50 ton mech. Now, melt each leg, arm, and torso of the 50 tonner and keep these 5 globs of metal separate.  Apply the appropriate glob to the corresponding body part on the 100 tonner in a more or less even layer.  Do you see that the increase in size would not be all that dramatic?  It would not add 50% in height.  At 100 tons in size, adding 50 tons more does not add 50% in height.  The Omega sucks up most of the increase in mass with its massively HUGE/THICK legs, massive gun arms, triple gauss rifles and hulking torso!  The rule stating that a mega mech is level 3 was/is plain stupid and short-sighted - maybe okay for humanoid bipeds but especially not appropriate for chicken-legged and quad mechs with massive legs, arms and wide/bloated torsoes.  Just sayin'...

You know there should be enough time for someone to assemble and paint one for the Iron Painter contest if they work quickly. Just a thought.  Oh, and I will wait with eager anticipation for the first one of these to be posted on CSO too.

Saying the mech is 200 tons based on the sculpting a completely made up figure.   The pewter in the mini has nothing to to with the height or weight. Look it is a nice mech I will buy one.   But it should be taller than all the 100ton mechs by a significant amount. Honestly though stating they Height rule is stupid in short-sighted.  Is basicly saying ignore the universe fluff.  Which is fine and good I have no problem ignoring fluff I don't like.  But then again I am not making official battletech products.  On the other hand IWM is.

The reason the height bothers me is because it really mess up playing with mini/3dterrain rules.   It doesn't matter on a paper map.

True, but the debate here is about the scale of the actual miniature relative to other miniatures. In terms of game effects, you are absolutely right, it makes no difference whatsoever.

With respect to determining the scale of miniatures, I would, personally, take the purported "mass" as a size hint over the more abstracted rules over whether a 'mech is 2 levels tall or 3.

I built mine based on the pic in jihad final reckoning it is a very hunched over mech like the stonerhino/behemoth, Im sure if it could stand up straight it would be level 3. But crouched menacingly ready to dish it out works for me  ;D
