Reminder about May 9th: next week!

Didnt end up playing the grinder last time, so we will this time.

Looks like a lot of the usual crowd can't make it, so if you can't stand those guys, now is the time! ;)

(I kid of course, I like having em around)

Pretty good session, despite me being 2 hours late. 895 decided it should be a parking lot for the day.

Ended up playing a Grinder with 4 players, 2 Mechs a piece. A lot of the newer stuff, so a lot of units I'd never seen in action neither. Cool moments included the void raptor pulling off  a taze on Vindicator, and a charge on the back of the same Raptor that same turn; he collided with the Vindicator in displacement.
Hilarity was had with the Patriot with the Arrow IV: quite a brutal beast if the target (me) is unable to make decent modifiers. (Bonus fun: it's one of the few 'Mechs I made; getting killed by your own creations is hilarious)
Final cool moment included the RAC Vanquisher, which got pushed to 28 heat courtesy of a little engine damage, an alpha strike, and getting hit by 4 Plasma Cannons. And then it got kicked to death.

Coolest moment: one of the players, Chris, decided to buy the ALpha Strike lance pack, such that I have some prize support to hand out at the next event! So, look for that in June, date forthcoming.

(Does mean another idea might get nudged back a bit, but all in good time)

It looks like there's a game scheduled at Games and Stuff for Saturday, June 20 from 12 noon to 6 p.m.

No details on the scenario, but if you've ever played in one of Paul's games before, you know he'll come up with something crazy!

What exactly is an off the wall game vs. a normal game for Paul?  Normal would appear to be orbital bombardment, meteor storms, mine fields, lava pools, and Steel Vipers.

...and then he hands you a packet of secret orders that may/may not be the same orders the rest of your team was given. #PurgeTheDisloyal

It's all about creating memories!

Yes, this upcoming 20th will have another game.
Last session, one of the players was nice enough to provide a little prize support. So, I'm thinking about putting together a quick n dirty tournament-style game, so there'll be a way for there to be a winner of some sort. ;)

Look forward to seeing you all there!

Just a reminder that the next game is this Saturday, the 20th!

I also just got a July date: Saturday July 25th.

Heya! Sorry i've been a bit sloppy in responding.

Next event will be on Saturday August 29, starting at noon, aiming to be done around 6.
It'll be another Grinder event, since I failed to show in July...
Should be fun! The last one was pretty solid, though I should pick Mechs that die easier next time (for myself)

And yep, still in the job market. Feel free to drop me something in PM, even if it's just advice.

Thanks, and hope to see everyone there!

Sorry I couldn't make it--how did it go?

Engineer: normally I'd say I'd be happy to play some AS, but with a recent arrival, I'll be sidelined for a while. Where were you thinking of playing, G&S?

Hopefully we can get some more Alpha Strike going. It certainly would let those of us with kids actually play again.

Dunno, ask again next week. ;)

Someone else will have to host the event, but I certainly don't making 'room' so we're not double booked.

Daddy brain set in so much faster than I thought it might.

Re: Alpha Strike -- One of the problems I've faced when trying to put together AS games is terrain. Setting aside the scale problems with the minis themselves, it ain't easy to come by 10mm/Z-scale/1:285 terrain. Among stuff commonly available at FLGS, Flames of War terrain comes the closest but is the wrong scale. Generic landscape features can work, but otherwise nothing man-made can be included on the table without looking goofy.

Even the local model railroading stores had nothing in Z-scale. The options seem to be paying through the nose online for pregenerated terrain, or printing Z-scale building templates off of Sarna.net and cutting and gluing until my fingers bleed. Maybe if we had enough interested folks jointly preparing terrain to leave at Games and Stuff or another location as "store terrain."

The best table I've seen for AS was the game Paul ran at Cold Wars two years ago (?), but I never know where any of the swanky terrain at that con comes from.

I have plenty of terrain that I could probably transport.  It is mostly heroscape and/or buildings that I've purchased through IWM on line.  I also have some barriers and turrets too.  The only issue would be I can't leave that stuff at the store I would have to bring it to and from my place.  I also don't know that I can guarantee a once a month showing.  Maybe every other month.

well it looks like there is interest.  I will check with G&S about table availability.  sundays might be better than saturdays based on what I've seen in the past, but that also depends on when others are available.  I'm, pretty open most weekends.

edit:  I stopped by G&S on my way home from work.  a miniatures table should not be a problem most saturdays but check before hand, and sundays are largely wide open.

Sunday's have proven tricky, attendance-wise, over the years.

Jan's been aching for some Alpha Strike though, so getting a date lined up that works for you both is excellent news! Drop me a PM or email if you want my help with anything. Unsure if I can make it, but I'll try.

anything that can be brought always helps.  I should have more than enough mechs to cover what we need, but if you would prefer to use your own please bring them.

if this turns into a recurring thing, I might invest in some 1/285 scifi buildings.

on another note, anyone interested in combined arms?  I don't know about this time, but a clan nova for each player has possibilities as does a comstar combined arms level 3 versus a clan supernova trinary in a Tukayyid scenario.  it's been a year or so since I've played alpha strike at all so keeping it simple for the first get together might be an idea.  any thoughts?
