Just got back from what's up with CGL? Event. Pardon any mistakes as I'm trying to dump this out fast. I'm tired! I recorded the whole thing and am uploading to YouTube now. Will post a link if it finishes before I pass out.

HG lawsuit isn't going to affect product releases. They have already pretty much made any adjustments they feel necessary to upcoming stuff that could have been affected. Nothing is being delayed or pushed back because of it

Combat manuals: bottom line, they were a showcase of what CGL can do, but they didn't sell well enough. Can't keep going with the same format, but not dead. Trying to rework so that the business case makes sense.

ilClan: yes, still happening. Still on the front burner...of things that aren't dragonfire. (Running gag from the CGL staff...answer every question with 'dragonfire ') Brent felt it needed a more epic, cinematic feel. Felt too stale or too much like a report too him. That is me paraphrasing, not his exact words.

More fiction in the works. The room had a fairly equal number of folks who liked anthologies and folks who liked novels. Who knows if that is representative of the feeling outside that room.

Brent and Ray were super nice and stayed for almost an hour after the event to answer more BT questions. They made an honest effort to respond to everything that was asked. These guys care about the game world, and it showed.

I can't recall everything they said, but some of the interesting bits:

Those maps with the box sets on display? Total mockups. They took the art from the AS introductory station play mats and threw a hex grid on them. NOT what will be in the box. They are very much at work on maps . Can't say what form they will take yet though.

They want to try to work the HBS campaign plot into canon if they can. HBS hasn't told them what it is though, so they can't say if it will work!

Bonus question from Brent: industrial mods with ICE engines...would you use them if you could get two or three for the cost of an urbanmech? Corollary: why is the urbie so popular when other.junk mechs aren't. Honestly, this deserves its own thread.

Wolverines are NOT the ilClan.

Looking at the maps, here is what I would like but will not happen.

The area on the maps in the pictures that say "water" or "woods"

Ray Arrastia told me tonight (after the "What's Up With CGL?" Seminar) that we're looking at a MINIMUM of 6 months before we see the box sets. A few months after that, we can Possibly see the Revised Classics in Metal from IWM, pending THEIR schedule.   O0
To me, Repros are 100% Wrong, and there's NO  room for me to give ground on this subject. I'm not just an Immovable Object on this, I'm THE Immovable Object. 3D Prints are just 3D Repros.

Something to bear in Mind. Defending the BT IP is Frowned upon here.

when they said coming in the next year or so, I was assuming new boxes would be on at least the upper half of that scale. no surprise there

I think the beginners box set is an excellent idea. Should rope in some fresh meat, er... new players.

Fresh meat was correct. Hopefully fresh meat willing to learn to play beyond the introbox. There seems to be a lot of people out there that cannot handle more then a 10page booklet of rules. :o

I have a question it seems they didn't answer in the Q&A. After ilClan will we get frequent (insert new Era name gere) products? I understand why ilClan is taking so long, but I hope it is a one time waiting deal

Wish they had the posters this year. Need some Battletech posters to fill in my new home Bunker/Game room!

only 3 pages Gencon Thread so far. I miss the times where Blakists were reported at Gencon tearing out pages from Dawn of the Jihad screaming of blasphemy and lies...

How many years won't we have an Introbox until the new one comes out? 2-3 years?

Herbs: "What could gave been" on fb is mote interesting than this so far.

OK, so not gonna make it for Christmas gifts, but a possibility of Valentine's gifts for a BattleTech-playing significant other, then.

However, the door isn't completely closed. IINM, reading between the lines, it looks like the remaining books are on life support and CGL is doing all it can to save the patient  ;D

I got both Combat Manuals and for me they were not meat or fish. They had very nice background and rules for the units, but without even victory conditions for the missions and pages after pages of list with mechs they gave me the feeling that a newbie would open them and finally put them into the shelve again, cause they looked like far away from the promise of a 'fast paced Alpha Strike' Battletech game. There was too much CBT and MW inside and not enough Tabletop content like a good (sry to say that) Space Marine Codex. AS needs to make a real and final step into a modern, easy to play tabletop game. Then, only then it will stand a chance on the market. Wall of text and lists of factors, mech versions etc. are contra productive.

Oh and I'm not sure if it wouldn't have been wiser to make the 2mini version of the new box CBT and the 8 mini version AS related with cardstock buildings and/or a cardstock dropship. Appealing to new players who live in the 21st century and not in 1994.

There are far more than 3 pages of GenCon stuff... it is just split between 3 different topics. This, another gencon thread, and the new releases thread.

So if you look at the new release topic, where most of the pictures and discussion for GenCon has taken place you would see a answer to that question and more discussion of the event.  No offense to the OP, but this was already under discussion on that thread and had been discussed in anticipation before this thread was started.

No, people tend to be lazy and not do a very good job searching for a related thread. It happens all over the internet.

people have a habit of not behaving how you want them to. complaining never helps.

if complaining worked, there would be 500 different box sets at gen con and adrian would come free with every box to mark off your record sheets for you.

Space Marine Codex

Well, Games Workshop has a nasty habit of making you rebuy content every few years with a new edition (now in 60 dollar hardback instead of a cheaper softback version ... oh and isn't the main rule book) on top of over priced plastic minis. I remember a plastic boxed set of 10 Tactical Marines around the time of Dawn of War 1 came out to be 25 dollars. Those same 10 Tactical Space Muh-rines are now 40 bucks. Also, GamesWorkshop is being sued for 62.5 million dollars. Spiky Bits: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jx__jrFealI

Around 9 minutes in he gets into some information on how much certain things cost to produce. Also, they say the 5 man Terminator squad was based on 5 man Elemental squad.

Just meant to elaborate on GW practices.

(Corrected US Price.)
