It is good it is so deep. It will keep the wreck grave robbers away.
I don't set an example for others. I make examples of them.

Didn't keep looters away from Titanic though.

And the wreck is also far outside of US control, this doesn't help.
The artifact looters and metal raiders will come for any wreck that isn't sufficiently guarded.
A quick examples would be the wrecks from the Ships of Battle of the Java Sea.

I saw something that the crew that found it, is going to have a "tour" of it based on the shots/videos their submersibles get.  the question is how long til it comes out and how wide of a distribution it gets.

my uncle was on the Indianapolis -- from what I understand, he was lost just hours before the rescue happened...

That really sucks.

My grandfather was assigned to the Indianapolis.  From what my mom has said, right before they left on their mission he was written up for some sort of infraction & transferred off...except that they never officially held an inquiry about it, & it never was formally added to his record.  Since my mom was born 8 years after the ship sank, I'm really glad he wasn't on it...but I'm sorry your uncle didn't make it off.

I thought this article was a hoax, but to know that it's real is a genuine relief. The Indianapolis remains to be one of the most harrowing moments in WW2 in the war's history. How 1 ship's sinking near the end of the war had gone unnoticed for so long was just unnerving.
