A more general purpose Gyrfalcon
« on: 22 August 2017, 04:25:50 »
Whilst the Gyrfalcon is meant to boing around at long range and make a right royal pain of itself as Hellbie so ably stated here;

http://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php?topic=57138.0

and that got me thinking.  Would the Falcons design a more 'general purpose' version rather than one that leaps around at extreme ranges, whittling a target down.  Keeping the same mobility, armour and partial wing system of the standard version to screw over energy weapons and make merry with the jump jets.

But instead of focusing on extreme ranges, its built to fight at what would be mid range for Clan weaponry, still relying on its agility and armour to irritate enemies, carving up opponents at shorter ranges.  This would allow the Falcons to simplify their supply lines, if you can produce a series of Mechs based on the same chassis you ease supply for parts etc as you'd have a larger stockpile and it would be easier to make one type and diversify rather than have a mech for every role.

One thing.... the mount of the SRM4 and the ammunition storage in the torso
all GyrFalcons seem to have the ammunition in the arms - shouldn't you use 2 ammunition depended weapons in the arms?
Or a asymmetric look with SRM in one and AP Gauss in the other arm?

I'd picture these ones as having arms instead of gun arms (god knows why the ER lasers are THAT large, you could fit several people into the barrel apature.)
