Miniature of the Fortnight #31: Crab and King Crab
« on: 05 December 2017, 22:08:32 »
Mainstays of ComStar and hailing originally from TRO 2750, the Crab and the King Crab are two superficially similar 'Mechs but really quite different.  The Crab was a medium energy boat while the King Crab was a hulking monstrosity that could cripple almost any 'Mech instantly, assuming it got in range.  For more information on the latter, see the 'Mech of the Week article.  The Crab doesn't have a modern article yet.

The Crab, despite its age, still only has a single sculpt initially hailing from the Ral Partha years and still with us today (20-804).

The King Crab has two sculpts, the original 2750 sculpt (KGC-000) (20-899), also initially released by Ral Partha, and its Dark Age makeover (the KGC-009) released by Iron Wind Metals (20-5108).

By now, you should know the drill.  Please share any painted Crabs or King Crabs you have.

And, like always, thank you for reading and especially thank you to those of you who will post.

Our next three fortnights will be:
  • Clan: (12/17) Dire Wolf (Daishi)
  • New Year's Special: (12/31) First generation battle armor
  • Inner Sphere: (1/14) The Atlas family (Atlas, Atlas II, and Atlas III)

Someone has to be the first...

A Crab in three-color-camouflage (preferred for Draconis combine unit) and an old King Crab in Lyran Regulars colors.

No surprise - there is a ComGuard Crab.

And one 2nd line King Crab for my Star Adder Tau Galaxy Cluster.

I've always really liked both these two and felt they were both right on the money.

I actually like the DA KGC sculpt, which is nearly unique for me.

But one thing I always fancied was a sculpt of the 3025/TCG art KGC variant; the one that looked like it had more of a face. The Black, charging TCG art made the normally slow, plodding King Crab look dynamic and badass.
Epitaph on an Army of Mercenaries

These, in the day when heaven was falling,      Their shoulders held the sky suspended;
The hour when earth's foundations fled,         They stood, and earth's foundations stay;
Followed their mercenary calling,               What God abandoned, these defended,
And took their wages, and are dead.             And saved the sum of things for pay.

I wasn't going to bother to necro this, but since it has been, I figure I'll join in the fun.

I only have two...

Stormbringers / 349th Dragoons

This is a slight variant CRB-22, which trades the small laser for 1/2 ton of additional armor.
