Star trek, R rated??!
« on: 08 December 2017, 00:55:52 »
Apparently Quinten Tarentino is looking to direct the next Star trek, and reports of him being singing on to it, came ONLY after the owners agreed to allow him to turn it into yet another of his cuss word laden R rated film festivals.

IF he gets it off the ground, would YOU be interested in watching such a show?

No, especially if the dialogue is typical of his many works. I don't need/want to hear f-bombs in every sentence in a Star Trek movie.

This could still be an R rated film w/o all the profanity. Hopefully that is the case, Trek could use a little more boom splat. Doesn't need nudity or a lot of profanity though.

My sympathies. I'm interested to see what comes of this, but I'd hate to see QT's mitts on a Star Wars movie myself.

You guys do know ST: Discovery is "cable" which mean they can do stuff above the rating they would be only allowed on network TV.

Based on the reaction to the past few movies and Discovery, fans are going to throw a fit about anything Trek does. Might as well branch out and try new things if the reaction is always going to be the same either way.

I'm afraid the Star Trek I fell in love with might very well be forever dead to the 'cool kids.'

As long as they don't screw up existing ship designs, I'll reserve judgement on the rest.

What, they've leaked pictures of the ships already?

(I'm serious. I'm willing to forgive a lot of they don't mess up my spaceships.)

Star Trek Discovery and the Klingon ships...the Federation ones at least look like derivations of the Federation ships we've seen before (saucer, nacelles, etc.)...Klingon ones? Not so much...

But that's just my opinion. I could be wrong...

Not for the movie that has yet to even be started, no.

Not just ST:D though. If the Tarantino movie rides off of what has already gone before, then the Enterprise has certainly been "messed" with, with varying opnions on how it was done & the sanctity of the original designs (YMMV). I would assume any future movies would use a JJ-Prise derivative.

I'll decide after I see pictures. If Tarantino shows that he can make a Trek without screwing up the Constitution or D7 classes, he'll gain much in my estimation. If he can't...he gets lumped in with Abrams and that ilk.

Boom-splat i can agree with, but i still can't see how that would force a movie to go to R rated, unless its got gratuitous gore..

In my opinion Quentin Tarantino is highly overrated, so I won't bother to watch it.

I feel the same..  Most of his works i have not seen, the few i have, were NOT in my top 50 or even 100 films..

You know, his particular style of writing might work if he were writing for a group like the Orion pirates. Criminals, thugs, and green hookers.

I'm not overly exicited about this option on Star Trek. Don't need a bunch of Star Trek Rated R part beucause I don't think that is Star Trek.

Now that would be worth watching. The "darker" side of the ST universe. Something even the original Kirk ran into in the original series, though never really explored.

I find it interesting that nobody has even considered the idea that Trekantino might not be R-rated. People are capable of stepping outside their comfort zones on occasion.

The majority, if not all, the coverage states Tarantino insisted on an R-rated material movie.  I Tarantino films and I like most Trek film.  The idea of them being in the same movie though is a bit of a stretch.  None the less, if I get Chief Engineer Jackson telling me we can't go to warp because there are space snakes that are clogging up the ** Dilithium crystal chamber, I think I will have reached my point that there are limits to the Trek universe.

If he could do a NON-r rated one i MIGHT be interested..  BUT the article says he made it known it was a 'demand to be R rated" and the exes's signed off on it..

A not R-rated Tarntino movie would be very intresting. I don't know if the guy could do it. It was such a big deal when Disco dropped a F-bomb. I wonder what would happen when it drops a couple of dozen from that movie.
