Just for fun: The Lyran Rifleman
« on: 08 December 2017, 19:59:45 »
You know what they say about the Lyran Commonwealth and their 'Mech preferences.

Thus, fire-support, Lyran-style:

100-tons, mix of missiles, lasers and autocannons for fire-support, shooting down aircraft, etc. It is slow, awkward, expensive, and a total overkill while also having somewhat weak firepower as weird as that may be.
Also doubles down as the primary scout for the Atlas recon lance thanks to the BAP sensor suite.

I would have used standard AC/5s just for the chance to use flak ammo versus ASF

Nah, LB5 cluster might cause less damage but they're longer-ranged and more accurate.

LB-X ammo is considerably more likely to hit, and lawn dart rolls are likely far more dangerous than mere 5 point hits. IIRC, someone from Catalysts stated they carefully made sure Flak would not be better for AA role than LB-X, being older tech.

While i did not intend this 'Mech to be actually sensible, LB-X is for general fire-support also rather more useful than standard AC/5s. And the missiles and lasers provide more direct firepower anyway, so standard AC/5s would not really add anything.
