I find the rules for firing the Artillery cannon confusing. the weapon is a direct fire but follows indirect rules. does firing a direct fire weapon(artillery cannon) need to add the +1 modifier  when firing direct.   if you have los do you have to act as your own spotter and add another +1 modifier. I think an example of firing at a mech and at a hex would clarify how to correctly use the artillery cannon. thanks for your time

No modifier at all when firing directly.  +1 is the modifier for Indirect Fire; when you're not using Indirect Fire it's a normal weapon that just happens to scatter if it misses.
