Useful. Not many asf have captured a warship.

If you want to patrol, use ASF, if you want to fight, then yes the ability to be launched from a dropper to maneuver on their own to attack a hull or surface of an airless rock. Most mechs don't have the reaction mass, other than jumpjets, that can't turn around fast enough to slow down. There IS no turning or sidejumps in space... S-Teams do have that niche, but they aren't slowed down by a cable if the " fall "off a non-gravity.

I would use Elementals for that.

Soo niche, they should have been Omnimech loadouts.

Definitely niche, but maybe we are building them as we don't build many omnimech's any more?

I'd say they fill a niche, and fill it well, but they are super specialised and probably rather rare.

Greetings, new around here (and new to BT in general)

Since I have already developed a thing for Snow Ravens, I have a few questions regarding their Touman.
A) How many active WarShips do they actually have right now? (post-Jihad)
B) Are Snow Raven AeroSpace pilots actually any better (on average, that is) than the ones found in the Toumans of the other Clans or their IS counterparts?
C) Was the 6th Raven Battle Cluster commanded by Indrick Boreale or something?

First off, welcome to the boards!

a) As of 3145 the Raven fleet is 17 warships supported by the necessary dropships and fighters. The Wars of Reaving and Jihad took a major toll on the fleet.

b) Compared to other Clans, not really. Compared to the IS, moderately. The Clan system is more designed to get the same or slightly better result from a smaller population.

c) Um, no.

A quick check of FM: 3145 shows that aerospace clusters for the Ravens have a higher skill level than the ground forces.  Because the Ravens bid fighters in where other clans would bid mechs, they have better pilots than other clans simply because they get the experience.

'Tis true.

I wish we had some new Raveny stuff to discuss, but alas, we do not.

The tutorial game went great yesterday. Five players who all had fun and a sixth person who did not play but watched and got interested in the game.

I've long thought that the Outworlders would be a perfect fit for what would be the civilian castes. Have them be the builders, farmers, merchants and scientists. Have the Clan look after all martial aspects. The Outworlders never liked the military anyway, so make it so that's no longer their concern.

Although, I would also encourage random testing, bringing more Outworlders into the touman, maybe even using the most promising to replenish the breeding program (ie. new bloodnames).

Absolutely not.  The Ravens would have to make key critical changes before they would fit in.  As far as I am aware there is no indication that the Ravens' warrior caste made any major changes to the caste system with regards to controlling who they have children with, which caste they belong to, salary, where and when they can go, property rights, etc.  If they tried to adopt them into the caste system they would have to do so by force as there would be widespread outcry, riots, etc not to mention how much chaos/change trying to integrate all the non-Clanners into the Clan especially with all the unClanlike ideas.  Not to mention the risk of granting possible enemies access to sensitive areas.

Just consider how much chaos simply integrating the Ravens into the Alliance caused (specifically the succession of a number of worlds from the Alliance) or the Ghost Bear Dominion merger with the FRR (which resulted in fighting breaking out when a number of FRR units violently resisted demobilization after failed testing).  One also can't forget the Raven paranoia which takes a lot to overcome.  Which is why the Outworlders were kept separate and permitted to keep their own nominal governmental system albeit one subordinate to the Raven Khans (giving the Outworlders the illusion of freedom).

It is simply too big of a headache for the Raven Khans to bother with for too little gain.  That isn't to say that they don't absorb some Outworlders who have proven themselves just not large numbers at a time.

Archangel, mind your manners.  Instead of "Absolutely not", might I suggest "I disagree."  The use of "Absolutely not" implies that his comments are self-evidently foolish.

Somebody hit the Battletech universe with a temporal freeze ray which so far has prevented events from moving beyond 3150.  When we last saw her, Sterling McKenna was paused with her finger hovering just over a big red button at the fire control station of her shiny new Leviathan III.
