Good morning :)

As I just discovered that we have an art page on the forums (I must remember to scroll down!), I wanted to share my creation as well.  YouTube videos are art right?

I have created the Interstellar History Network as a BattleTech fan film site (link below)

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqPhB5JdwFdPgw61r22EELA

Right now, just starting simple with small videos that are more informational, but hope to work my way up to larger productions in the future.  Seeing some of the wonderful artwork here, well I need to write some people for commissions and/or permission to use their work!   :)

So tell me what you think and feel free to ask questions, offer suggestions and critiques.

Overall short and sweet videos, very nice.
If I had to make one suggestion, it would be to use the unit icons instead of the faction icons where appropriate.
We have plenty of FMs listing off units, even Camospecs has the icons if you are in a pinch.
However that's a negligible suggestion.

I do like how you're trying to release these around the calendar time of the fictional event.
It reminds me of another YT channel I like "The Great War", where they take one week of events during WW1 and have been doing so for a while.
That format is nice, plus with Battletech you can touch upon the events in summary and then go back in detail as a special if you want.

Another idea would be to link the Battletech site in your YT information box (the doobly doo according to most YT users), that way folks can get some tangential learning. I guess if I was doing something like this, maybe add in some Drivethrurpg/Battlecorps links for my sources if the pdfs are available for sale. That's mostly me because I used to make bibliographies as big as my reports at times.  :D

Keep up the good work, I've always liked trying to bring more of our lore to those not familiar with it.  O0

Thanks everyone!  I appreciate it!  Never done something like this before, but always talked about it...so putting my time and effort where my mouth is ;)

If I had to make one suggestion, it would be to use the unit icons instead of the faction icons where appropriate.
We have plenty of FMs listing off units, even Camospecs has the icons if you are in a pinch.

Please make suggestions!  Another set of eyes may see something I am missing.

Originally, I wanted to run with the unit icons only, but there were several units where no icons currently exist.  Both for the Jaguars and Inner Sphere units.  Or the available icons were only in black and white.  So I went with an approach that treated each side the same.  Really brought home the varied factions involved I think.

It reminds me of another YT channel I like "The Great War", where they take one week of events during WW1 and have been doing so for a while.

Ding, ding, ding!  We have a winner!  That YT show is the inspiration I am drawing from.  I watch is regularly.  My goal is to one day do a full blown timeline like they do for one of the major conflicts.  Now, we have far less information to draw from than WWI, so I would likely have to get creative and probably just make up some dates.  However, if they were in between the main timeline dates we have, I don't think people would mind.

Another idea would be to link the Battletech site in your YT information box (the doobly doo according to most YT users), that way folks can get some tangential learning. I guess if I was doing something like this, maybe add in some Drivethrurpg/Battlecorps links for my sources if the pdfs are available for sale.

Huh...hadn't thought of that.  Good idea!  Though I might avoid referencing the PDFs for sale.  I am coming from the approach that this is some Youtuber in the Inner Sphere and then just a reference to the licenses holders of BattleTech.  Let me think on that.

Keep up the good work, I've always liked trying to bring more of our lore to those not familiar with it.  O0

That's my plan.  Trying to do one video a week for now.  Once I get a little experience under my belt (learned quite a few things already), I will try some longer shows.  Many other fandoms have tons of fan films and such, its about time that BattleTech start showing its colors too!

I had an idea similar to this some time ago, but laziness and my own "weasel huffing helium" voice stopped me. If you need any help on anything, let me know.

I only brought it up because it would help the viewer. Basically there's always that one player who will watch this, go "Oh my god this battle was my jam back in the day!", and then wonder what books cover that.

Even if you listed the titles of sources, it helps them come back.
Alternately this also helps folks if you make an era/war sound really cool, they can find the appropriate title(s) and jump right into it.

Still good to hear that The Great War was the inspiration, they do some damn fine work.
If you need help with writing or such, I don't mind when I can. I can't voice for crap honestly, unless you need a drunken sounding Taurian or something.  ;D

Good question, do we have any pre-Star League stuff out that can present a level of detail the likes of, say the fall of Smoke Jaguar?
I mean yeah we have Age of War and Pre League digest stuff, but nothing in the way of a Turning Points or scenario packs.

Well, you might notice that the six topics I used as examples correspond to the current six eras in the BattleTech game universe.  And the Star League era goes all the way back to 2005 ;)

But, Atlas3060 is correct, the info we have will more than likely be better for a quick "Today in Inner Sphere History" rather than something detailed.

Trial of Position or Trial of Possession?

Yeah, that threw me as well.  I had to check the book a couple times to make sure I wasn't misreading it.

It finally clicked for me that the Trials for the Nova Cat worlds were not for possessing those worlds, they were Trials of Position for the Nova Cat forces joining the Draconis Combine.

Next video is up!

Today we went with a Battle Report from a recent game, but we worked it into the larger BattleTech History.  Hope you like it!

https://youtu.be/hutjKylA08E

Also, I used some custom artwork from Flieger (Thank you!) and a artist from DeviantArt named RCW-HardCore.  He has a lot of Clan Wolf unit insignias so go check him out here: http://rcw-hardcore.deviantart.com/art/Batttletech-Clan-Wolf-13th-Wolf-Guard-Cluster-451989464

Flieger's artwork can be found on these forums here: http://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php?topic=47591.0

Cool! I think small level engagements like the one in your new video are far more interesting than the big campaigns, since I already know about the big campaigns but there are many small and interesting battles I do not know about.
Of course, someone who is new to Battletech may have a different experience. So it is probably for the best to make both kinds of videos.

Anyway, I am glad I could contribute a little and wish you all the best!

Both types work for me.
I will say your description of the battle was quick and to the point.
A worthy After Action report, or at least a sitrep of a true warrior.
The Khans would be pleased with this.  ;D

Thanks guys!  I appreciate it!

I am trying to keep my videos to "bite sized" pieces for now.  Easier for me to put together, get a point across, fix any mistakes I make and put it out for enjoyment by others.  Lengthier works will take a more l long term approach that I don't think I have the time for just yet.  That said, a couple ideas have crossed my mind :)

The battle report was also quick because I didn't originally plan to make it into a video and I didn't want to post how we both were failing PSRs left and right.  Seriously, we were laughing so hard from missing so many fours!

First new video in over a year!  Dusting off the actuators and trying to get this channel moving again.  Also, changed the name from Interstellar History Network to Louisville BattleTech Network.  Trying for some synergy with some other projects our local BattleTech group is putting together.

https://youtu.be/qnmURnAc27U

Its a short one, but going to try for something longer in the near future.
