Goblin IFV - WIP
« on: 03 January 2018, 10:48:00 »
Nooo not again. Yes another unfinished work but I really appreciate critics and the best way to get critics is to do some advertisement.

Just for the show the current work:

I try to merge the elements of both Goblin TRO pictures modern heavy IFVs and took some extra inspiration by Matthew Plogs artwork - to be found in the topic Glenmora PM

The heavy SRM launcher does fire 2 instead of 6 missiles per volley - so not 10kg per missile but ~30. Some reloads are situated in an autoloading system in the turret, but the other reloads will be placed in the body.

driver and commander are in the hull, the gunner in the turret
I used the characteristic rhombus forms on the skirts as a kind of heat sinks (doesn't know if it make much sense)

I think it looks awesome, you're a far better 3d modeler than me that's for sure.

Don't think so - the guys that are really awesome could do my work in a fraction of time. The difference is really only time - everybody can do it.
I'm bad with a pencil but 3d work only need some ideas and time lots of time

Yeah your right, as far as 3d modeling is concerned time is the essential element for making something look good.

Still, I'm pretty darn slow. So don't let yourself feel like you don't do good work.

Wow, I dig all the fine detail. Design looks great, too. Very fitting with the BT universe. I think it could use a few more greebles in and around the top hatch-cover.

I only had a kind of finishing touch for the SRM - missile and the side skirts.
Everything else is far from finished.
I spend a hour or so to create the troop room - only to start from anew because I've redone the body.

Instead of changing and changing it again and again, I started to make it more modular.
Here the Goblin and a possible Striker Chassis WIP

You can see that i have made the Goblin sleeker.

Sleek is bad for troop capacity, though... I don't know if I'd go that narrow...

It'd have to be bigger to fit 50 even uncomfortably, which is what the MG variant needs room for.

There i will change the classic Layout.
The Assault Goblin as i call it will drop the troops though a ramp in the front direction.
Your/Matt Plogs Terminator version will not have a bigger troop capacity.
Reminder the Goblin in the TRO3026 was not a IFV it was a medium battle tank with the plus to have some troops.

Yeah, definitely not going to fit 50 people in there.

Although, you should check out this thread to see where Hptm. Streiger is going with these redesigns. In short; a single ton of space dedicated to an infantry compartment, equals enough space for one squad or one suit of BattleArmor.

*Edit* Woops, I guess it slipped my mind that you were already aware of Hptm. Streiger's thread on Infantry and vehicle spaces. So nevermind then.

Unfortunately the spaces for the Goblin would still allow the meat transport.
5+45/5 = 14 spaces
5 for infantry
5 for machine guns
2 for SRM
2 for ~2t of ammo

This also means this goblin will be less compact compared to others - I will try to make a rough sketch

just added 7 soldiers from the 3d Warehouse - the position is not ideal - but with bodyarmor - its possible that 4 squads can stand there.
with lighter equipment the meat transport can field more infantry.
Considering the "role" those guys will not transported over several miles -they will load into the assault goblin under cover and then the tank will charge the enemy position... you clearly will not transport your elites - but disposable Yakuzza or Eta with bayonetts and bolt action rifles (Kurita version)

in contrast you see the "normal layout with 4 hammocks (7 for the squad plus one for a optional loader) and some boxes plus reloads for the SRM - you can store the hammocks and have room for 14 soldiers without any comfort

Dakkon, no worries!  It's still a good discussion here.

As for spaces, I thought all the ammo took up only one space?

A picture should help

This is a original Hetzer model found on sarna.net
Next to a APC Italian? found in 3d warehouse

The Hetzer got a 150mm cannon and 4tons of ammo. And I did not even use the magical 10round magical.
Vehicle space is abstract on one hand it says how big a vehicle can become. A 5t ammo load on a truck might not be a big issue. But when you add armor or excessive ammo to the mix things become interesting.
In contrast to infantry space ammunition can be stored in every tiny room. How the ammo got to the gun is secondary.

A Hetzer based on a truck would look more like the Dana, Archer or G6.
4tons stored but the space increases the vehicle.

It's not exactly rocket science but in the end a design should feel ok
