(Answered) CO - Food and water
« on: 16 July 2016, 13:41:21 »
Since CO includes rules for spare parts, ammo and fuel, were rations overlooked or left out on purpose?  Is it a "forage from the land" thing, or does the 200 person-days/ton for space quarters apply on the ground too?

The beans just seem left out of the bullets and bandages.

I'm referring to "Stage 4: Determining Operating Expenses" on p24 of Campaign Operations.  It describes peacetime expenditures of ammunition, spare parts, fuel and salaries.  But no peacetime expenditures of rations or food.

An army does travel on its stomach, but food didn't seem to add up to much in the face other requirements (by cost or weight).

ATOW provides food costs per month on p. 336.

Food weights aren't addressed in current books, but 1-2kg per day would cover dehydrated meals. With water, it'd be closer to 5kg. That's below even 200 person-days per ton, which is a value meant for spacecraft also supplying air and other life support requirements.

I'll get that into the errata.

Well, 1.5kg/person-day, for an infantry platoon for a month, would be 1.26t, which is very possibly more than their spare parts or ammo requirements.  If you have to include water, a 'mech lance requires 0.6t/month, which can add up.

Maybe not as costly, but per mass, it can be substantial even compared to the spare parts, fuel and ammo.
