Design Review Board - Marsden III Heavy Battle Tank
« on: 05 November 2016, 00:05:09 »
Up for general consideration, thoughts, and design review - An early Jihad-era upgrade of the venerable Marsden II MBT. Now mounting a better gun, varied missile payload, and is 33% faster. Does have a slight decrease in armor protection, but stands to be a much more versatile threat on the battlefield.

Nice, that light gauss lets it be a good harasser and the SRM cloud when you get close is unpleasant, tough lil thing too.
Ghost Bears: Cute and cuddly. Until you remember its a BLOODY BEAR!

Why not trade the SRM6s for MML5s? Drop the heat seekers for a ton of LRM ammo and boost your long range damage. Especially since the light Gauss doesn't do a whole lot of damage, particularly for the Jihad era.

"early Jihad-era", hence before MML's were commonly available.

That's a nice idea for a variant, but for a later one to be sure.

With mention of the Jihad era I was thinking of approaching from the other end of the tech scale - primitive Retrotech instead of advanced technology. The only rules for primitive vehicles that I can recall (based off the rules for primitive Mechs and ASFs in Jihad Secrets) was the heavier fusion engines and less effective armour. Anyway, here goes -

Marsden II Primitive Fusion
Code: [Select]
Tonnage: 75 tons
Tech Base: Inner Sphere Primitive
Movement Type: Tracked
Internal Structure: 4
Engine: 180 Primitive Fusion (treat as 215 Fusion)   14.5
Cruise MP: 4
Flank MP: 6
Heat Sinks: 10 0
Control Equipment: 4
Turret: 1
Armour Factor: 173 (15.5 x 16 x 0.7)      15.5
Front: 37
R/L Side: 36
Rear: 28
Turret: 36

Weapons & Equipment Location Weight
Large laser             Turret       5
2 SRM 6                 Front        6
Ammo (SRM) 60        Body        4
LRM-5                      Turret       2
Ammo (LRM) 48        Body        2
Machine gun               Turret       0.5
Ammo (MG) 100         Body        0.5

The basic changes were to replace the ICE engine with a primitive fusion engine (removing one of the machine guns to accommodate the extra half ton of weight needed for the fusion engine), replace the standard armour with primitive armour (both as described in Jihad Secrets), and replace the AC/5 and ammo with a large laser (for more firepower) and a LRM-5 with 2 tons of ammo for long-range fire or tactical options such as Thunder mines or smoke LRMs.

Can someone check this and tell me if it would be compliant with any rules for Primitive vehicles? And also, how do I get this thing to auto-space and line up with the columns like in Black_Knyght's original post?
