Squall Reaver - Storm Raider Knockoff
« on: 16 March 2017, 23:22:28 »
From the Storm Raider Mech of the Week Thread.

TL;DR: it's the Scorpion tank of mechs.

With this in mind, I decided to build a Storm Raider with a standard engine. As a special challenge, I also tried to make a mech that could match the capabilities of the model 1 Storm Raider (with its standard AC 10) in alpha strike, though I haven't done the conversions to figure out how well I succeeded.

Think of it as a bootleg knockoff being sold to less cautious consumers out of a Capellan Factory. :)

Ironically, a SFE variant with otherwise identical stats will cost *more* in Alpha Strike's PV than the XL base model, due to the SFE's greater survivability.

It's one of these amusing quirks of life.  :D

Yep, I think I like that better than the canon Storm Raider.

What about using a LAC/5 and adding a Light PPC for the extra weight available?

It's about 300k more cbills

Some of that could be shaved off by going back to singles. Though in this case it might actually impact the mech's performance.

Then drop the ERML to a std MedLas. The ERSmLas is the same cost of the std SmLas and the extra heat point is worth the extra range.

With the small cockpit, you can save a half ton by stashing the ammo in the head and dropping CASE. 7 tons of standard armor for 112/119 coverage brings it down to 3.392 and a standing alpha of 11 heat.
