Simple Whitworth MRM refits

I don't mind MRMs. And because the Whitworth is reasonably common in the Draconis Combine, it should use DC's native equipment.

One medium laser and the LRMs are replaced with a C3 slave and triple MRM-10 batteris, respectively. Two tons of ammo is more than adequate for the MRMs. Left-over weight went to a ton of armor, though i will admit the half a ton is arguably wasted.

Of course, this turns the 'Mech into a direct fire support machine. Has somewhat more firepower but it is also hot enough it might not be able to make good use of that firepower. But it is rather Kuritan. Including lack of double heat sinks...

Ultimately, both kinda ruin the point of the Whitworth which is indirect fire-support. But i figure these are the kind of things that Kuritans might have done so...
Before someone suggests slapping the C3 to a standard Whitworth, i'll note that the LRM indirect fire doesn't benefit from C3 so it is as pointless modification as the official one that removes MLs for Artemis IV system.

Nice.  I think you need to go to an XL, though.  I wouldn't want to carry an MRM that close without being able to run for my life.  I think the best use of MRMs I ever found was the Jenner variant with 3 MRM-10s and a pair of standard MLs a fan TRO.

It is a refit, not a factory rebuild. So no XL engine.
Besides, the Whitworth is not an unit where i'd cram an XL engine under any circumstances, i'll just pick something purpose built if i need fast LRM carrier (the Dervish and Trebuchet come to mind, or even the Assassin). Pre Clan-Invasion, the Whitworth is a cheap, simple fire support design, post-Clan Invasion it is to be relegated into second-line units and militia roles mostly.

That said, i'll make a fast 40-ton fire support design later...

What about the Apollo system?  Would it make more sense to use a single launcher, and go with a hunchback-style approach, all or nothing?

Well, the Apollo FCS is not available in 3055. And when it becomes available, it is experimental tech, again not field-refit material.
And the thing is terrible anyway. Yes yes, it removes the +1 penalty but i dislike the cluster hit-penalty more, because the thing about MRMs is that they have large rack sizes for their size and cluster penalty goes against that.

Compare it to the S version that carries paired SRM-6s.  You just made it able to reach out a bit further. 
I'm aware. Hence the first modification which uses three MRMs rather than merely two.
And the S variant is comparatively rare since it is extinct by the FedCom Civil War. Perhaps they got turned into these...

I like these Withworths.  They would be great opforce for city campaigns!   >:D
