The Blazer Mafia is born!
« on: 21 May 2017, 15:40:59 »
Well, you knew it had to happen.  Those wonderful Blazer designs couldn't just stay on the drawing board.  They had to see action!  So I created the Blazer Mafia mercenary unit, an enhanced company specializing in assault contracts, but they'll take any job that lets them smash things!

The designs generally follow what was submitted; a few I tweaked to my own preferences, adding SRM packs and/or rocket launchers (another 3025-tech weapon that was introduced later).  Apparently I cannot attach the cpnx file, so here's a quick rundown of the company:

HQ Lance
Atlas-B (as posted)
BNC-SB (as posted with the AC 10)
TDR-5SSB (as posted)
COM-B (as posted)

Green Diamond Company
Alpha
BNC-EB (Blazer+ AC/5)
TDR-5SBR (5S with Blazer, and RL-15s in place of the LRM)
WHM-6RB I didn't find a posted version of this.  But just to make people squirm, I dropped the SRM and kept the...MACHINE GUNS! Mwa, ha!
HBK-4B (2 MLs, 20 heat sink version as posted)

Heavy Recon
VTR-9BB (modified from posted by keeping standard VTR armor and adding another SRM 4)
VND-1RBR (as posted)
SHD-2DB  (Yes, I employed it!  As posted.  I WAS going to swap out all the missiles for rockets...)
WVR-6RB (modified from posted.  Straight swap for AC5 and ammo.  No other modifiers.)

Cavalry
DRG-1GB (Starting with Grand Dragon, swapped LRM for 2 SRM 4s)
TBT-7KB (Kurita Treb variant with Blazer, plus AC/5.  No SRM 2.)
SHD-2HB (straight swap for the AC/5, no other mods.)
COM-B (as posted)

Well, the BM's first contract of 3015 went off without a hitch, totaling all of...two battles!

It was a planetary assault on the planet Zosma, which was very close to Galatea (2 jumps).  However, the challenging component of this contract was the gravity of the planet; everybody lost 1 MP!  It also was an Integrated contract, which meant two employer supporting units every battle.

First battle was HQ Lance versus about an enhanced, mixed company, with a Hetzer, LRM Carrier, Hunter, and a half-dozen Vedettes, coupled with a Hunchback-G and Locust.  The BM was supported by a Dervish and Griffin, the latter of which let itself get picked apart by the LRM carrier.  Excellent diversionary tactic!

The Blazer Mafia rolled face for the most part; however, the Atlas did end up losing its left torso thanks to amazing cluster by the opfor.  The Banshee-S and Thunderbolt, however, kicked and thrashed everybody at close range.  They both proved to have a very good heat curve, able to use the Blazers fairly often without getting crazy heatus.  The Hunchback lasted two rounds before going down under the massed fire of all three heavies.

Oh, and did I mention the Banshee pilot happened to roll Laser Specialist?  Yes.  It was as fearsome as you'd guess.

The second mission was an ambush, into which I deployed the Wolverine.  Against two Wasps and a Locust, it was quite the slaughter.  I happily overheated the Wolverine with two alpha strikes, both times taking a Wasp from pristine to dead while the Locust was kicked into submission.  Minimal damage on the WVR.

And then the enemy routed, with about two months left in a four-month contract.  Huzzah!
