I suspect Dragonfire will be the talk of the CGL booth.

Probably a LOT of Dragonfire...but Second Succession Wars looks to be dropping there since there are images of the book at the con.

Standalone game using a system based on Shadowrun Crossfire, IIRC

OK I guess that could work. Another thing and maybe I am just being paranoid but I notice that the posters on the pictures I have seen don't have the poster from the warhammer and marauder from the combat manuals just the old mech from the last starter box. Did you guys change direction?

I'm headed up Friday morning. I'll see if I can pick up a copy of 2SW before I hit the tables and find out what is in the mini TRO if that still isn't answered by then.

Well that's cool. We get the Steiner Griffin and two new Thunderbolt variants. But for the life of me, I don't recognize the last one.

You mean beyond it being shown on the Cover of 2SW and a line art of it, on a AS Card, in the Crescent Hawks Spotlight PDF?

If you are taking questions, can you tell us anything about the intro where someone in character discusses the book?

Well that makes more sense. So we then get the Davion Battlemaster. Cool.
I was planning on getting the 2SW pdf anyways, but the mini TRO settles it.

Not sure what you want t know, but it looks like it starts with a story told from the POV of Conrad Toyama. Also, I fixed my BLR mistake.

In first succession war, right after the story it had an "introduction" on page 8 by a paladin on Terra 3150. She makes comments about how the wall is still up and they have commissioned two primers on the succession wars. I'm curious what happens in this book.

The intro is by paladin Constance McGuire in 3150, but doesn't say much of anything about what is going on in the present. However, there is a sidebar addressed to the ilKahn saying this document was peovided to them by the exarch. The note is from lore master Stephan roshak. Is that what you meant?

So we have an IlKhan and an Exarch, and they're either on the same side our at least friendly enough to share historical documents. We also have a high-ranking guy with a Falcon BloodName, though we've no indication if he's a Falcon, a former Falcon bondsman, or a descendant of the Falcons that joined the Republic.

For the sake of simplicity, I'm willing to assume he's not a Spheroid with a distant relation to the Falcons pre-Exodus or a coincidental last name, along the lines of the Lyran Malthuses.

Sadface to see a beautiful theory in "the Exarch becomes the ilKhan" die.

Or maybe it still could be one really insane individual, and his staff either plays along or doesn't realize the two different people never actually appear in person in the same room at the same time...

The story takes place in 2819. The introduction is from 3150. The note to the ilKhan is from "nearly a century" later. And there are a few names/titles In the brief paragraph, not all have been posted yet.

I hope you are smiling that the circle weirdly obsessive about this intro did not attend origins where others did pick up the book and we are left salivating.

SorrY, I've literally been at the tables all day since my last post. Going to grab some dinner, but I will type up the sidebar in full when I get done. I saw the nearly a century by t, but wasn't sure if that meant 3150 being 100yrs after the invasion, or if it meant 3250.

Sorry, not verbatim copy, but gently extract the factual juices from the sweet textual orange, making a delicious and potent juice of information! I would have brought the book with me to read while I eat, but I didn't want to get beer and food all over it.

In other news, they had new dice for sale. I'll try to get some pics up later. Lance packs on sale for $10 and IWM didn't have any new stuff on Friday but were hoping to get something they wouldn't elaborate about n for Saturday. Also, I saw speck playing in the BT pods. He was doing pretty well. I didn't stick Round to fanboy him though.

The information to the ilKhan was recovered by Gunslinger Eli Sender.

Ok, a slightly more descriptive summary here: the introduction is signed as being written by paladin Contsance McGuire in 3150. The sidebar, which it not dated, only signed by lore master Stephan Roshak and addressed to the ilKahn, does mention motion that the 'original document', referring to the intro and the book as a whole, are a draft that was written over a century ago. That draft was, 'made available' by the exarch,  it was 'discovered' by gunslinger Eli Sender. Furthermore, it notes that, while the document (the 2SW book) is old, it may make a useful reference for sibkos of the history of the inner sphere 'during our exile'. Now, I assume that to mean the original exile of the SLDF, since that is when much of 2SW happens.

That bit about the exile, and the fact that 3150 is pretty much a century after that exile ended, threw me, and made me question whether the sidebar to the ilKahn was 3150 or 3250. Reading it again, I believe the sidebar is written in 3250-ish.

Also, I read through the intro story about the death of Jerome Blake and the beginning of Comstar as we knew it in 3SW. It is a complicated piece with a number of details, and I don't want to paraphrase it here because I would honestly be giving you my opinion of what it meant, when you might not agree with me after reading it yourself. What I can say, unequivocally, is that Jerome Blake died peacefully and that Conrad Toyama predicted they might name a BattleMech after him (him being Toyama, not Blake.) Actually, he thought it might be a BattleMech or a Warship, but I think between the two, he would be more pleased with the Mech than the Warship.

Anyway, for me, the intro fiction alone was worth the price of admission. It isn't Earth shattering, but I think it is a very honest explanation of a longstanding mystery. Now, on to the destruction! At least until I fall asleep.

EDIT: also, I think there is an error in the "weapons and ammo" box for the Thunderbolt on p.117. The stat box on p.116 says that both variants have an ER Large, 3 Mediums, and two Small Pulses, and that the -5L has an LRM15 with Artemis IV and a streak 2, while the -5LS has a standard LRM15 and standard SRM2. The weapons and ammo box on 117 says they both have an ER Large, a standard LRM15, 3 mediums, and 2 small pulses, while the -5L has an additional ER Large and Streak2 (plus CASE) and the -5LS has only an additional standard SRM2. I'm pretty sure, of the two, the stat box on 116 is right and the weapons and ammo box on 117 is wrong.

Always a fun time with the pods. We got two games in last night. Also played in the Solaris meter challenge for a few hours.

Today should have 2nd quarter release and two BT that came out after gen con that are not in the booth.

If you don't mind me asking, how do you do that?was it a US rather than China printing, or do you order them flown in?

Good point. I guess if it was a small run any local output would be sufficient.

And that's a Widiowmaker, now Wolf, Bloodname.

It is shared by the Falcons, Foxes, Ravens, and Wolves.  So there are many possibilities.

After the scientist caste "tweaked" the various bloodlines, all the Inner Sphere Clans were forced to share bloodlines, so it could belong to anyone.  And if there is an ilClan, all the other clans have merged with it or are taking their orders.

I suspect that the Second Succession Wars pdf will not be released until after Origins ends.

Equally unseriously, I wonder if this 'any minute' comment is just a means of getting us to stress-test the webstore server :D

More seriously, here's a question - clearly the product is complete, and has been put through printing for at least a small number.  What influences when the PDF is made available?  Does it need to be vetted separately through the IP holders, or is there a particular schedule - and if so, why?  I'm not complaining, I'm just curious.  What happens from the time when a product is considered 'finished' to the point it's made available for purchase?

No-but usually the answer is that simple. The person setting it up in the stores hasn't gotten to it yet would be the typical reason. The case right now turns out to be a management/technical one, so we've likely got to wait until after the con to sort it out. A shop issue, not a an issue with the PDF.

Hey, that's an answer!  Basically it comes down to 'there's no major contractual reason, it's just when we can get to it' then.  Was just curious, thanks!

The Ghost Bear dice are grey this year instead of blue. I didn't have my Jade Falcon dice to check but the Falcon dice look a bit darker than the previous ones. Other than that they do appear to be the same Chessex colors as before.

The GB dice are likely gray due to limitations of what dice blanks were on hand.

I thought about picking up a set, but my ice-blue ones would've gotten jealous ;)

Ahh, I was not aware. I just knew they were not the same dice from last year!

Also, I got a chance to try out Dragonfire, and it was a lot of fun. There was pretty much constant interest in the demos they were running, and even now on Sunday morning, the demos keep filling up. They kept a lot of core mechanics from crossfire but changed enough that it didn't feel like a re-skin to me. They did keep one thing that always frustrates my group though. You spend the whole encounter collecting cards and becoming awesome...then you have to give them all back when the encounter is over! I don't like giving up my awesome cards! There is an XP advancement mechanic, but we didn't really get to try that part out. If it is more generous than Crossfire then it might be ok.

Just pointing out that deal was for the Q-Workshop sets. Not these Chessex dice.

But it was a great deal.

Well, i partook in 2 grinder periods (each 3 hrs long) due to one of my events on Friday not going off, due to origins making a booboo in the scheduling (that event somehow got listed for LAST slot on sunday, while another game got kicked BACK in time from 2pm to 9am).  had great fun as always...

Origins was fun! Every time I came by the Battletech gaming tables things were hopping. My wife got her faction dice so she was happy, and I met Gooeman!!

There was a sign of the apocalypse however: the GW booth was giving away T-shirts with the purchase of any book. Yeah. Them.

And if Dragonfire gets even a fraction of WotC's clients to play, that's a huge amount of $$$ coming in to CGL. $$$ that can be spent on Battletech development!

Fair enough. Thanks for the response.

Also, since I'm not sure it was mentioned, the Sun Zhang academy T-Shirt has the new Wolverine line art on the back. NAMA last year had the Shadowhawk. I'm sensing a theme there! I wouldn't bet against the Nagelring with a line art Griffin in the future.

Also, I just want to say thanks to everyone from CGL and to the Demo Team and other volunteers who helped put on the Origins events. I had a great time, and everyone was working super-hard to make sure people who wanted to play were accommodated.

Woohoo on old dice returning!  I can finally replace my lost Jade Falcon one.  :(  (All I can guess is it fell out of my dice bag, then managed to fall out of my backpack on a trip or something)

Any chance there'll be Smoke Jags too?  That was the one that sold out by the time I got to the line in 2015, which was crazy since I was like 8th in line after the Running of the Lemmings.  The VIGs alone got all of those!
