to be honest I normally wake up around the time its going to happen.

since its in Oregon, (the path I mean) I am NOT going to chase the path of the event, I figure I will have enough issues just trying to get to work on Monday. and I normally don't start work until ~2-3 pm when the event will be between ~10:15ish and 10:30 am here

Nowhere in particular. I'll watch it online, since the effect where I am will be minimal.

But I'm a couple hours north of where it'll be best to see it in IL. Most likely I'll follow Science Channel's coverage of it all...

Will be at home in Vancouver, BC, will have an 85% total eclipse. Vancouver will have a TOTAL eclipse in 2771, so, unless some major medical advances in the next few years, don't think I'll see it :(

Well, the eclipse has started here but it's hazy and overcast so those people who actually were trying to see it are not getting a terribly good show.

Still getting sunlight back here.

Probably could have taken a road trip a bit south and gotten a more total eclipse but what we got here was pretty darn close.

Was kind of weird watching the sun peaking out behind the moon but how cold and dark it got is what was really unsettling.

Didn't get to view it through a pinhole viewer, but did see it get dark outside.  And got a bit of activity on 10 meters, thought it might have been coincidental.(Sounded like CONUS activity right around the time of the Ten Ten net.)

At least the kids got to see the start of it.

I got pulled into my meeting, but did have to go get a cup of coffee (heh) so I stepped outside. Not much going on- I guess we got 80% coverage here, but it was still brighter out than it would be if the scattered storms in the area had been in the way of a regular afternoon sun.

I was in the zone for about 97% totality...main thing I heard was: "Wow, I thought it would be darker than this."

It's amazing how much light you get from just a 3% sliver of the sun still shining...it was dark enough that an automatic street light and automatic lights on cars came on, but, as others have said, I've still seen it darker with heavy cloud cover...

And nowhere near as dark as the solar eclipse I remember from back in the 80's when our school watched on our football field...I think that one was a total eclipse...

I was in the 90ish % area. It didn't get too dark, but the sky did get visibly darker. I also noticed that it got significantly cooler.

Totality was, how can I put this? It was primeval. It was something that put me in a sympathetic frame of mind with the dinosaurs looking at that big orange ball growing awfully big in the sky. The jolting change in light also reminded me astronomically that we are merely perched on a really big spaceship with only the barest of vapor between us and oblivion.

And also it was disturbingly like looking at The Ring in the sky. I had no idea solar prominences got thrown that far out. To the right and left of totality they went almost the same angular distance in the sky as the sun's disk itself.

At home. We were in a 97-98% zone. It was going to start at 11:45, the Wife and I got everything ready...Clouds rolled in at 11:43 and it started storming.  >:( Granted, we do need the rain, but, it could have at least held off until after the eclipse was over.

We did get to witness it in a way at least. Even though it was raining and cloudy it kept getting darker and darker, the security lights came on and the temperature dropped for a bit.

A view from GOES-16 showing the entire shadow as it rocketed across the USA.  That's the umbra and penumbra you see, hence why it looks so massive.  The area of totality, the true umbra, comes to a spot about 70 miles wide right in the middle of that.

Watched it from northern AL.  We had 97% coverage here but now I'm sorry I didn't drive up to TN to see the total eclipse.  It got noticeably dark here, but not as dark as I would have expected.  Honestly photos I've seen posted today on the internet are better than what I saw with my $15 eclipse glasses.   ::)

Made it to Columbia SC and it was just surreal being in the path of totality. Darkness was noticible at about 80%, like being under a big cloud. When totality happened it instantly became considerably darker, automatic lights all popped on and the crickets, in fact all the nightlife, began making noise. The sky looked like something out of a science fiction movie. Sky was still blue, but the eclipse on that blue sky was just amazing. One amazing thing I noticed was a cloud passed in front of the eclipse about 5 minutes before it was to be in totality. When totality hit that cloud literally dissipated in front of our eyes and other clouds visibly became smaller. Freaky!!!! The location I was at was in totality for 2:32, but we did not notice a major temperature drop. As far as celestial events I have witnessed it is by far the most spectacular, amazing and surreal event I have ever witnessed.
