Sourcebooks for Alpha Strike
« on: 30 August 2017, 18:45:44 »
Is there a list of sourcebooks from CGL that can be used with Alpha Strike? Just by my quick view we have:
  • Alpha Strike Rulebook
  • Alpha Strike Companion
  • Combat Manual Mercenaries
  • Combat Manual Kurita
  • Combat Operations
So is that a complete list at the moment or am I missing anything?

Combat Operations??

Damn. Campaign Operations! That's the one I meant. I'll update my list. Thanks for catching that.

Most of the Campaign Operations book is outside the scope of AS or is written for CBT instead of AS (as well as already covered in the AS books).

Every single book that focuses more on in-universe people, factions, and events work with Alpha Strike as much as they do Total War, or nearly so. The rules and stats may be different, but it's still the same story, and reading through those books will give you ideas for Alpha Strike scenarios and campaigns just as easily as they will for TW. :)

The value of most supplements vary with what you're trying to do with Alpha Strike.

CampOps does have some lance formations that aren't likely to see direct publication for Alpha Strike.

The various field manuals have potential use in AS if you're trying to portray an established canon command. Some of the command abilities directly correspond to AS command abilities, while other special rules require some interpretation in finding SCAs that match. Depending on which command you are interested in depicting, force building guidelines appear in the descriptions of some of the commands.

But if I were to build a force based off of RedJack Ryan's bandits, then the original TRO 3025 would likely be the best resource for that. Featured pilots in the TROs are another example of how those can be used (with SPAs) in Alpha Strike.

Didn't the two Spotlight On pdf products have AS rules for their units? Neither of the published Spotlight On pdfs seemed interesting enough to pick up.

The new formations/SPAs in Campaign Operations were/are those scheduled for the  remaining Great House Combat Manuals. It wasn't meant that AS players would need CO for those, but I don't know any more than anybody else what is/will happen with the CMs.

Thanks all for the information! I think I'll be picking up Campaign Operations, at least in PDF, and go from there. I've still got the old Field Manuals for the Capellans and Lyrans. Gonna see if I can whip together some quick and dirty Combat Manuals for those two with the new formations and the old fluff.
