Hi Everybody (Hi Dr Nick!)
So I used to play back on the 80s, from 2nd Ed through Battletroops. My friends and I had a sweet set up with a box full of geohex, minis, etc. still have some of the TRs in the basement.
Really didn't do anything with it from time I went to college through nowish.
I'm thinking about getting back in as a way to connect with my teenage nephews.
Thing is, we are not located near each other (halfway down eastern seaboard) so I'm looking to do a play by email/or even Skype type play sessions. Don't want to do mek wars or an online game as I'm trying to put minimum barriers between the human interactions.
Here is my question for the group -  if I bought them an intro box when it comes out and hard copy/PDF bundles of some of the core rule books, is the shop set up so that I can gift the PDFs to my nephews (I'll keep the hard copies)?

Yes. Buying through the Battleshop gives you seven downloads of any PDFs you buy. So if you give your nephews your login information(assuming you trust them with that info, it'd be kinda like giving them your ebay password.), you'll be able to buy a book/PDF combo, download the file yourself, and they'll be able to log in and download them as well. And if things screw up, feel free to email the people at the Battleshop, they're great about resetting the download count when it's needed. In addition, if you check the box to get updates each time you buy a product, you'll get free access to any errata updates(and so will they).

Played Battletech back in the late 80's early 90's with a group while in the Army. Over a couple years, built a multi regiment merc unit and then the Clans appeared. Over a 3 day marathon battle of pen and paper across 3 worlds, I watched my proud unit destroyed to the last man. So traumatized me that I quit playing. Then recently, I tripped over MegaMek and felt the pull to get back into it, and then the bug really bit me when I found MekHQ which removes a tremendous amount of paperwork.

Still trying to get caught up on all the new history and such.

Welcome 2ndAcr.

Yeah, the Clan Invasion took a lot of people by surprise, both in fiction and at the table! However, there's a lot of good history that follows.

I saw this thread, and I think it applies to me.  :D

After getting hooked on the lore in MechWarrior 2 Merc 1998ish, was lurking around since the "Classic" Battletech moniker - played a bit of MegaMek when I first saw it available back in 2002ish, bought my first printing TRO 3057 that I saw collecting dust in a lonely corner at a bookstore, was intrigued by the QuickStrike rules, and finally purchased AlphaStrike as it was simpler and easier to teach my partners.  O0

Since then, bought TRO 3090 (Aka Prototypes) and purchased TRO 3039 (Oh, that was worth it) and ended up playing cardboard cutouts of Liao Urbanmechs waddling and whacking Marik Patron Militia Mechs on the way to the bank.....
