A Call to War: 1st Amori Militia
« on: 04 September 2015, 00:26:45 »
Welcome to my A Call to War update thread!

I plan on painting up 355 points of the 1st Amori Milita, a DCMS unit that saw action vs. the 22nd Freebirth Cluster of Smoke Jaguar's Delta Galaxy during the battle of Luthien. I'll also be painting up a Monitor Naval Vessel from the 33rd Coastal Patrol Squadron that supported the 1st Amori Militia during the battle.

I plan on running a game at a local event in Tacoma in November and I've been instructed that our theme will be the Jags vs. the DCMS set during the Battle of Luthien. With that in mind, I pawed through the Luthien sourcebook and found a scenario called "The Sheep Fight" that is right up my alley. I like that the scenario pits second-line clan mechs (which I feel don't get enough love) vs. a rag-tag mixed militia unit that doesn't have a lot of access to anything better than intro tech.

Here's what I'm planning for the DCMS defenders.

Light Striker Lance (75% of lance gains Speed Demon SPA)
Ostscout OST-7J                                        16     Scout (Skill 4)
Phoenix Hawk PHX-1                                   30     Skirmisher (Skill 3)
Chevalier Light Tank (Standard)                  17     Striker (Skill 4)
Chevalier Light Tank (Standard)                  17     Striker (Skill 4)

Command Lance (One unit gains Antagonizer, One unit gains Marksman and Commander gains Tactical Genius)
Atlas AS7-D                                               52      Juggernaut (Skill 4 - Antagonizer)
Banshee BNC-3E                                        38      Sniper (Skill 4 - Marksman)
Thunderbolt TDR-5S                                  43      Brawler (Skill 3 - Commander/Tactical Genius)
Charger CGR-1A1                                      18      Scout (Skill 4)

Support Lance (Lance supports Command Lance and thus one unit gains Antagonizer and one unit gains Marksman)
Demolisher Heavy Tank (Standard)              27    Juggernaut (Skill 4 - Antagonizer)
SRM Carrier (Standard)                                26   Ambusher (Skill 4)
SRM Carrier (Standard)                                26   Ambusher (Skill 4)
Ripper Infantry Transport VTOL                    10   Scout (Skill 4 - Marksman)

33rd Coastal Patrol Squadron Support Elements (No formation bonus)
Monitor Naval Vessel (Standard)                   30   None (Skill 3)

So there we have it. 350 points of the strangest fighting force I've ever put together. There's only one medium sized unit. Oh well.  This is the force I'll be painting up. I've already started painting two of the tanks and the OstScout.  Pics to follow shortly.

A Monitor?  I love combined arms but its not often I see naval suport.  Points for original thinking!  I'm looking forward to seeing this force painted up.   O0

Oh wow!  How did I not see that?  Guess I'm so used to seeing 'Mechs all the time.

So I've started work on my OstScout, a Chevy and an SRM Carrier.

The OstScout is basically done for now. I'll need to base him, touch him up and add some decals later.  As you can see, I'm a big fan of base coating in one colour (red in this case), inking in a darker colour (black), then drybrushing the hell out of the mini in another colour (orange in this case). After that, I add highlights. It won't be a fancy paint job but I like it.

You really brought out the fine detail in the old Ostie. Very nice!

when i ran this mission with my wife (close to 2 years ago), the monitor did some major damage before finally being sunk by elemental SRM fire. the height of hillarity was two clan 'mechs that got splashed into the river from a destroyed bridge...

So, one of the Chevy's is done. As is one of the SRM carriers.

I'll need to add decals at some point but I'm satisfied with how they look atm.

I plan to run this scenario on my newly finished terrain boards. If you haven't seen them, you can see more pics of them here.

Impressive terrain board and miniatures!
Still have yet to make a board of my own, definitely will take this as inspiration! :)

Is that larger fish tank tubing?  Its is a great idea for a enclosed monorail!

Finished up a few more minis. Got the T-Bolt and Atlas done. I'm really liking the Atlas' metallic face.

I'm actually not 100% sure what the tubing is. I got it at Home Depot I think and it perfectly fit inside these jumbo straws I had lying around (The straws are the bits that attach to the supports and also what sticks out of the mountain and what the tube goes into at the station).

Finally got my minis finished. Had to change out the Banshee for a Kitano and the Charger for a Panther but I think theyre a better fit anyway.
