The T-60 MBT and its variants
« on: 01 November 2014, 20:40:49 »
This tank was designed to be a next generation tank compared to the Estevez and Marsden I tanks, an
expectation that was let down by the appearance of BattleMechs and primitive Combat Vehicles that soon
followed.  With slightly more speed and a heavy main gun, this tank was meant to defeat its older
brethren on the open field of battle.  Though it was surpassed by newer technology, the production of
the T-60 continued, first as a second-line unit, then later for planetary militias and export to other nations.
Even though this tank was produced in large numbers and spread throughout the Inner Sphere and
Periphery, there are no known reports of T-60 vs T-60 battles.  To date, only one example remains in
existence in a military museum.

The T-60-C1 Command Variant
« Reply #1 on: 01 November 2014, 20:50:20 »
Envisioned as a command tank, the T-60-C1 variant dropped a ton of ammo from the heavy rifle
and one ton of armor, downgraded the SRM to just two tubes, then installed three tons of
communication equipment for command and control functions.  It was not unusual to see one of
these in command of a militia unit, with one stored as a backup.

The TD120 Tank Destroyer
« Reply #2 on: 01 November 2014, 20:57:55 »
In an effort to save money, the chassis of the T-60 was reused in the somewhat rare TD120 Tank
Destroyer.  Dropping the turret for a slightly raised compartment allowed for the installation of
a 120mm autocannon fed by two tons of ammo.  A vehicular grenade launcher fitted with smoke
grenades was intended to allow the TD120 a chance to withdraw from a bad situation.

The T-60-B1 Missile Carrier
« Reply #3 on: 01 November 2014, 21:09:45 »
Experience with the TD120 gave the research division inspiration to create a fire support
model.  The chassis modifications were reused to mount a twenty-tube LRM launcher in
place of the autocannon and fed by three tons of ammo.  Slightly behind and raised up
was a small turret mounting a single 12.7mm machine gun with a half-ton of ammo.

The T-60-L1 Blazer
« Reply #4 on: 01 November 2014, 21:17:49 »
Even rarer than the TD120, the T-60-L1 Blazer (Blazer L1 for short) was an experimental model
mounting a single large laser in a reduced turret along with supporting equipment, along with a
forward-mounted 12.7mm machine gun a a half-ton of ammo.  Considered unsatisfactory at the
time, the Blazer L1 tanks produced barely made it to a half-dozen planetary militias in single
digit deployments.

The T-60-S1 Sniper AA
« Reply #5 on: 01 November 2014, 21:25:22 »
Modifying the turret gave this variant of the T-60 a longer than expected lifespan, though still
no examples of the Sniper S1 exist today.  An enlarged turret mounted two 30mm autocannons
meant for anti-aircraft duties, along with a two ton ammo bin for both regular rounds and
flak rounds.  As a rear area unit, the Sniper S1 never had any secondary weapons and carried
slightly less armor.

The E60-1 Engineering Vehicle
« Reply #6 on: 01 November 2014, 21:37:50 »
With the number of T-60 tanks and variants being produced, an engineering variant was soon
offered.  Outliving all other variants and even the company that created it, the E60-1 is still
in operation in remote corners of the Sphere with civilian contractors and cash-strapped
mercenary units.

The E60-2 Bridgelayer
« Reply #7 on: 01 November 2014, 21:47:33 »
Despite experiments in amphibiousness, the T-60 was never fitted to be able to ford deeper
streams and rivers.  Modifications for this were considered too time-consuming and a waste
of resources.  Taking a page from history, the base chassis was stripped of the turret and
two heavy bridgelayers were built in for crossings.  As the E60-2 (related only by original
chassis to the E60-1) has no weapons, a compartment was added for infantry to act as
security while in operation.
