IThe Man of the Match award as well as the Disproportionate Carnage and the Toho Model Studio awards went to the CCAF Yinghuochong who took a passing shot at a Fuel Tank for the sake of it. The resultant explosion killed a Thunderbolt, Blackjack-O, Shockwave and Phoenix Hawk in one fel swoop, while also stripping the armour off a Prefect, knocking one hip off a Shadow Hawk and damaging a half-dozen other 'Mechs. And, to boot, it destroyed nearly every building on the map. And then he kicked out a Hunchback's hip to prove a point.

Wow.

That...must have been quite a show... :D :D :D

Uh, is it just me, or are all four of those salvage-material, too?  Despite it being a MASSIVE FUEL EXPLOSION, not a single wrecked 'Mech. :D

Today was the first The The Princess Games! The format is simple; huge map, two or more human players and a swarm of Princesses. Use of Double Blind, pre-placing the Princesses as humans and a few other ruleset tweaks results in an interesting game of stalking one's prey, with only one survivor.

Of course, in a battle like this, there were plenty of other awards to hand out.

The Winner of The The Princess Games went to me, piloting a Black Knight and scoring two kills, a Hatchetman and a Warhammer. In true Black Knight style, the 'Mech took a lot of punishment without actually taking any critical damage... although overheating was another matter.

The So Near, Yet So Far award went to Zogster, the other human player. One of the last three standing, his battered but unbowed Marauder had a Warhammer at near death... and then got kicked in the head. Ouch. Zogster also won the Ballet Dancer Award for defeating a Defiance by jetting around it and slowly wearing it down, despite being half-wrecked himself.

Speaking of, the Bossmonster award went to the Defiance for plowing through a Thunder Fox (As well as taking out the Fox's ejected pilot. No mercy in The The Princess Games!) and coring a Snake in rapid succession. Ironically, he ejected from his exploding 'Mech and was picked up by the one-armed Marauder (Don't ask how this works) and died to the same fatal head-kicking.

The Harpo Award for Participation went to the Black Hawk KU which got itself crushed in short order with minimal effort by the War Dog. All it managed to do was score a single medium laser hit on the War Dog's head, which lead to...

The Or That Could Happen award goes to the Black Knight and War Dog in tandem. Battered from an earlier fight, the Black Knight hung back and tried to use range and cover as best it could to string out the near-fresh War Dog... and instead put an ER PPC shot through it's head. Thanks to the Black Hawk KU, this proved to be instantly and hilariously fatal.

The And What Part Of This Plan Seemed Like A Good Idea award went to the Hatchetman that decided to rush the Black Knight at point-blank range. Medium Laser spam and a kick proved the folly of his ways.

Finally, the I Can't Think Of Anything To Say award went to the Marshall for being taken out by the Warhammer... and not doing much else.

The second ever running of The The Princess Games saw three players, Rickosaur (yours truly), Zogster and Stoatbo take on a horde of ravening princesses in a free-for-all battle where there can be only one survivor! Our dozen competitors stalked each other, each one knowing that there are only two options; explode or be exploded.

The Winner of the The Princess Games was Rickosaur in a MAD-4K Marauder II, but for all that getting only a single kill (a Warhammer). Most of the game was spent hopping around form cover to cover and taking potshots at already wounded 'Mechs. In fact, there wasn't even a kill for the win; rather one of the last two 'Mechs died of heat-induced Ammo Explosion, and the other was too badly damaged and went over the pre-set "minimum surviving BV" threshold. The result was that Rickosaur also won the Vulture Of The Match

The Monster Of The Match award went to the Xanthos for taking out an Excalibur, Zogster's Warlord and a Blackjack. (It then went and hid in a corner for some reason). Even then, it managed to survive the rest of the match, shred the Thunder and get two engine hits on Rickosaur's Marauder II. And while it was slowly whittled down, it managed to survive until the end of the match.

The Survival Against All Odds award went to Stoatbo's Thunder; it took out an Archer with little effort, but then got jumped by a MAD-4H Marauder II. Having survived that (and killed it as well) he was then attacked by the Xanthos, which ripped his 'Mech apart... but not enough to kill it. What did actually put it in its grave was a heat-induced ammo explosion.

The Hot Seat award went to Zogster. After losing his Warlord early in the game, he took over control of another Princess 'Mech, only to quickly lose that as well. Then he took over the Xanthos, which lasted longer then the other two combined.

The Dire Flail award went to the Warhammer and Bloodhound who encountered each other early in the battle, and decided to fight. Normally the outcome of this battle would be a foregone conclusion. Instead, while the Warhammer did win, the battle was far from one-sided, and left it badly battered. It was then taken out by Rickosaur's Maruder II

The Jennifer Lawrence award for Aquatic Hygene went to the MAD-4H Marauder II after it fell prone in a Depth 2 water hex early in the game and then stayed there for the next dozen or so rounds. It also won the Fourth of July award for, after crawling out of the water and running into Stoatbo's Thunder and opting to unload all of its rockets into it at once... and missing. Its subsequent shutdown and death to an LBX-20 to the head finally gave it the This May Not Have Worked Out As Intended award.

The Casual Roadkill award went to the Blackjack for managing to get gunned down by the Xanthos without anyone noticing.

The Yakkity Saks award went to the Excalibur that was chased around by Zogster's Warlord in an effort to escape the inevitable. Instead it ran straight into the Xanthos, which kicked it to death.

The So Bad its Awesome award went to the Xanthos and Thunder together. The Xanthos decided to Death from Above the Thunder who responded with an alpha strike. The Xanthos missed and crashed, busting its leg. The Thunder then shut down, but out of the Xanthos' front arc. The result was the pair of them lying next to each other, unable to do anything to the other.

A clash between the Lyrans with Mercenary allies and the Wolf Empire turned ugly as a feud between the two Wolf commanders turned into a game of one-upamnship on the battlefield. Star Captain Terry Radick and his Elitist Jerkarse Star sought to prove their superiority over Star Commander Gateau Wolf and his Pudding Crusaders, and both decided the best way to prove it was through seeing which could kill more of the enemy.

Of course, to add insult to injury, Terry Radick led his star from a Warwolf that had previously been piloted by Pudding Wolf, one of the Pudding Crusaders. Dirk thought he deserved the 'Mech more, and Pudding sought to prove otherwise. Which one of them would prove to be the better?

The answer was actually "neither". And while the Lyrans and Mercenaries were soundly beaten, losing most of their force while only killing a single Wolf 'Mech (a crippled Lobo), the actual outcome of the feud was a surprise.

The Man Of The Match award went to Kalgan (Ward), piloting a Mad Cat, for killing more enemies then anyone else (or, for that matter, the rest of his star put together) for a total of four kills (Scourge, Ursa, Gauntlet and Bandit Mk II) or a third of all those claimed by the Wolves in the entire battle. That one of them was hillarous was only a bonus.

The Alleged Ristar award went to Terry Radrick who rarely shot at anything and even then rarely hit when he did. In the entire game, he hit once with his Warwolf's gauss rifle. And that was to kill a single Battle Armour trooper. In the last turn. Real hero there. On the upside, he never got hit once, so that has to count for something.

The Opening Gambit award went to Gateau Wolf in the Blood Reaper for his first turn shot. he sent a pair of ER ATMs at a JES III with 11+ to hit... and not only hit with both, but immobilised and turret-locked it.

The Failure to Communicate award went to the three-man team of a Lyran Scourge and a mercenary Ursa and Predator Tank Destroyer. All three of them advanced as a group, until contact was made with the Wolf forces. The Scourge advanced... while both the Predator and the Ursa backed off. The result was the Scourge wound up facing off with an entire star on its own, and went from "minty fresh" to "dead" in one turn

The Lucky To Be Alive award goes to Don Hossbucket, the pilot of the aforesaid Scourge. After ejecting, he wound up in the middle of the thickest fighting, and spent the rest of the game scurrying from hex to hex while managing to avoid capture or death.

The Guardiana Award for Traffic Safety goes to Fruit Salad Wolf in the Rabid Coyote 2 for constantly failing skidding checks and spending more time sliding then running. He almost managed to ram the Mad Cat that way

The Hey, You're On Fire award goes to the Lyran Warhammer for being hit with a full flight of fifteen (!) inferno missiles from a Rabid point. Amazingly enough, he didn't explode but, at the same time, he certainty didn't enjoy it. Of course, that also left him in a prime position to be swarmed the next turn.

The Perfect Turnaround award goes to the Empire Mad Cat. After spending several turns dicking around and avoiding anything that might resemble a fight, the mercenary Ursa saw a chance and ran up behind the somewhat overheated Mad Cat. In response, the 'Cat flipped its arms... and put an ER PPC through the Ursa's head.

The Legbreaker award went to the Lobo and the Gauntlet for both hitting each other with kicks in the same turn and both taking out the other's right leg.

The This Tank cost me a fortune, I don't want to get a scratch on it award goes to the mercenary Manticore II for never once getting near the battle. It fired a few desultory shots but never really contributed to anything before dying an ignoble death to an Elemental Point.

The Piccasso of Passive-Aggressive Karate award goes to Stink Dogface in the Barghest. Badly damaged and with the Warwolf, Blood Reaper and Tundra Wolf bearing down on him, he lateral shifted into a water hex, breached one leg and fell prone. Of course, this meant that he was now underwater and thus out of line of sight.

Another round of The The Princess Games resulted mostly in unknown results and technical victories. Our three contestants, Rickosaur, Stoatbo and Zogster fought each other and a swarm of blood-thirsty Zombie Princesses for the prize. Who would win? Well technically, the answer was none of them.

The actual Winner of the The Princess Games was Carl Bossmonster in his Defiance. Originally a Princess, Carl was taken over by Stoatbo after he was knocked out. From there he managed to defeat a Yao Lien (the last remaining Princess) as well as crippling Rickosaur's Warhammer 9D to the point where it was under the rules-dictated BV threshold for survival.

Carl Bossmonster also won the Detroit Architectural Preservation Award. Unable to hit the fast-moving Yao Lien, Carl shot the building out from underneath it. After falling five levels, it was left at the feet of the Defiance... which had its TSM on. Ouch. Carl then repeated the trick on Rickosaur's Warhammer, albiet without the kicking.

The I'm not going to report what happened to me on the grounds that it will make me look like a booftool award goes to Stoatbo in a TDR-60-RLA Thunderbolt. He refused to say what it was that he did, but it involved collapsing buildings, skidding and multiple piloting skill rolls. Double blind leads to a lot of "?" reports which actually can be hilarious

Stoatbo also won the Norman Krasner award for protracted suffering for limping around with a broken hip and a constant series of failed piloting rolls and self-inflicted damage, so much so that he took more from his own misadventures then the enemy, including five pilot hits. He eventually ejected from his 'Mech once it ended up with one leg in a collapsed building. Finally, Stoatbo also won the Bought before the NRL Tribunal award for charging a Helios and displacing it off the map.

The Mutually Assured Destruction award went to the 5K and 8S Crusaders who chose to fight each other early on. The end result was the pair of them ripping each other apart in a festival of MRMs and Heavy Gauss shots. The 5K succumbed first, being destroyed by a HGR round. Unfortunately, said HGR shot caused the 8S to fall over and blow itself up.

The Conga Line of Death award went to a series of 'Mechs that in essence lined up each other for death. An Avalanche stepped out into an intersection, only to be jumped by Rickosaur's Warhammer, an Enfeild and a Dragon Fire. The Avalanche died, then the Dragon Fire killed the Enfeild, and then the Warhammer killed the Dragon Fire.

The this plan seemed better in my head award went to Zogster's battered Grasshopper. Badly damaged, it tried to auger in Rickosaur's battered Warhammer with a Death From Above attack. It failed and in the process crippled the 'Mech.

One quick one from a skirmish today...

The Technically Not Cheating award goes to the Jade Falcon Loki Mk II B for getting the most kills of the battle. However, three of four kills were Battle Armour points, all killed with it's LTC. And it wasn't even aiming at one of them.

If I may, I have three awards I would like to submit... I´ve been playing a Clan unit in MHQ during Operation Revival.

The Beastmaster award goes to a Nova Prime, for killing two Dragons and two Panthers in one battle.

The Suicide by Proxy award goes to a Jenner IIC 2, for spending the entirety of that same battle chasing a JR7-D Jenner around the battlefield before finally killing it in the last round.

The Free Rider award is shared between the three points of Elemental BA that participated, for spending most of the battle swarming heavy/assault Mechs (An Archer, an Awesome and an Atlas, respectively) without bringing either of them own or even doing any meaningful internal damage.

Next battle in the same campaign...

The Nothing But A Scorch Mark On The Ground award goes to a CRD-3R Crusader that suffered ammo explosions in all four of its ammo bins.

The Who Needs Senior Officers, Anyway award goes collectively to the entire 1st Huntress Cluster of my non-canon Clan Cave Lioness, for cutting a DCMS line regiment down to size while suffering only a single fatality: their commanding officer.

As the campaign draws to a close, I´d like to award the What Are We Paying These Guys For? award to the 8th Pesht Regulars. In return for just about an entire regiment (they were down to about 20 effectives at the end, if you use a generous definition of "effectives"), they...
... headcapped a Kingfisher
... knocked out a Summoner´s engine
... took out a Viper´s leg
... cost a Mad Dog and a second Summoner an arm each
... and killed a single BA suit

Kinda disappointing even for a green unit. That cluster has done worse against a battalion´s worth of pirates.

Another one from an ongoing skirmish (Which is playing out at an absurdly slow rate)

The Flying Traffic Hazard award goes to a Wolf in Exile Mad Cat Mk II 5 for chosing to escape a point of Falcon Elementals with its Improved Jump Jets. A good plan, save for the fact that they'd allready pulled off a Leg attack (hence the escape) and busted its hip. The result was the 'Cat crash landing, albiet safely out of the line of fire. The next turn it got up, and then the turn after that, it decided to get back into the action... with its jump jets.

And a few from a game that decided to terminally crash and take down the save with it for some reason. Still, there were laughs.

The Well That Lasted award went to the mercenary Night Stalker which decided to bum steer several 'Mechs. In one turn it went from "undamaged" to "Kicked to death by a Juliano"

The Multiple Choice Death award goes to MechWarrior Mimpy who died of both life support damage and falling on her head from shutting down in the same turn

The Skulking award goes to the MAD-9M2 Marauder who slowly circled around in a broad arc at the far fringes of the map while not firing at anything

The Bang Goes the Budgie award goes to the Vulture Mk IV for having both Streak LRM ammo bins go off in the same turn. If engine destruction hadn't gotten it, then pilot death would have.

The Ineffectual Use of Ordinance award went to the C4 Thunder for its constantly firing Thunderbolts at terrible to-hits and only ever landing one of them before dying

The first to die award went to the RFL-8D Rifleman who died of falling over. In turn two. Without ever doing anything. Fantastic work.

The Death By Science award goes to the Galahad for being shot in the head with two Medium VSPs. It also won the Beating The Odds award as everyone figured it'd be the first to die. They were second (see above)

I had a nice one from my last match...

Bang Yer Dead award goes to Master Sergeant Niko Seguin in a Dervish DV-6M who lofted his LRM10s at an enemy Archer ARC-2R. TAC'd for Ammo Explosion. He was the first to fire and hit with 4 missiles from one launcher.

The What Am I Paying You Guys For? award goes to the other 7 pilots who combined for another 124 points of damage to aforementioned Archer.

A cancelled round of my AToW game lead to another running of The The Princess Games, this time with four players. Rickosaur, Zogster, Stoatbo and Reject fought each other and the princess hordes for fame, glory and bragging rights (But not a free Thud)

The Winner of The The Princess Games was Rickosaur in his Grasshopper; not only did he get two kills (Defiance, Koschei) including the legendary Carl Bossmonster, but he also did enough damage to send a Rifleman over the minimum BV limit, giving him a technical third kill for the most of the match.

Rickosaur also won the Scenery Chewing award for spending more time shooting at terrain then opponents in order to keep his TSM on.

The How Did You Think This Would End award went to Princess Replicant who decided that their Griffin would be best used by standing toe-to-toe with Carl Bossmonster's Defiance and then remaining there in a knock-down brawl. It went as well as one could imagine.

The FaceStabber 9000 award went to Zogster's Ti T'sang DDC for getting the first kill of the match and knocking out an Agotera repeatedly with its TSM-enhanced lance. Stab!

The Master Marksman award went to Stoatbo in his Exterminator for constantly missing even the easiest shots. He did manage to wreck a Snake's Streak SRM-2 at one point. Yay? It was only after the Snake had taken plenty of damage from other combatants that he was able to do enough to kill it.

The Banana Peel Rule award went to Reject. His Kimodo was duelling with a Rifleman and winning until it failed a PSR and damaged its engine. The next turn, while prone, it went from 'mostly fine' to 'dead'.

The Career-Ending Injury award went to Carl Bossmonster who, having effortlessly crushed the Griffin, decided to chase after Rickosaur's Grasshopper. Along the way he took several hits and fell unconscious at the feet of the aforesaid Grasshopper, which promptly PPCed his head off

The Epic Duel Across Time And Space went to Rickosaur's Grasshopper and DoubleDoubleBadPrincess' Koschei who spent hours jumping across the jungle shooting each other at stupidly hard to-hit chances.

The pair of them also won the Unexpected Reversal award after Rickosaur took heat sink damage and shut down. DDBPrincess shot and kicked him while down... and missed for the most part. The next turn, Rickosaur was back up and crushed the Koschei's head.

The Clutz of the Day award in my latest games has two winners. The first, to my puffed up elite Warhammer pilot who thought he could run madly around the city. Makes one PSR only to fail the second (needs 3 rolls 2) and skids right into a hardened building taking a TAC to the torso then falls into the basement.

The second pilot thought he could run in the city on a busted hip. Every turn he would get up, run, then fall down. Yet it took an AC/20 to the head to keep him down.

A battle between the LCAF and FWL-aligned mercenaries turned into a festival of truly random explosions, largely due to the Lyrans using a full lance of Rommel Howitzers. The end result was indiscriminate and often rather violent artillery cannon fire going off all over the place, some of it actually hitting its intended target. Maybe. In the end, the Lyrans managed a pretty strong victory, with the mercenary force in retreat or reduced to so much confetti.

And, of course, there were awards to hand out!

The Man Of The Match award went to the collective mass of the Lyran Rommel Howitzer lance. They scored seven kills between them, which wasn't bad given that five of them were Battle Armour squads that they weren't even aiming at and rather wound up as collateral damage. Besides that, they did a staggering amount of damage to the mercenary force and went a long way to preventing them from forming any sort of coherent formations or response.

The Hapless award goes to Comrade Boogaloo, an LCAF Ostscout. Boogaloo jumped in with a high Defender TMM to get in some TAGing and spotting for the Rommels. Instead he got his gyro shot out by a fluke hit, which pretty much killed him on the spot. To add insult to injury, he was actually taken out by a Vedette. With a Bombast Laser. Oh, the humanity.

The Arm Fall Off Boy memorial award goes to Best Fairy Ever, an LCAF Fireball, for blowing both hips on a failed, 3+ MASC roll. BFE then, finding herself surrounded, immobile and behind the frontlines, chose to eject.

The Nice Grouping award goes to the LCAF Alacorn for putting two Gauss on the side torso of a fresh Warhammer, and thus sending it from 'minty' to 'crippled and withdrawing' on the second turn

Speaking of, the Stephen Bacon Memorial Award for Camp Attendance goes to the aforesaid Warhammer who spent the entire game slowly limping back to its home edge while taking potshots with its remaining PPC

The Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers award goes to the LCAF Maxim Mk II Shiloh for managing to steer into a wall and immobilise itself on the second turn

The Firing Squad award goes to LCAF team of a Falconer, Defiance, Ursa and Gauntlet team for staying together and pouring on truly horrific amounts of massed fire on several targets. They only broke formation late in the game when the enemy force scattered in response to them and the aforesaid Rommels.

The Pillbox award goes to a mercenary Manticore tank for being immobilised early in the game and then subjected to horrific amount of fire from various Lyran units for numerous turns before actually dying. Even then, it was due to structural depletion and not critical hits.

The Not Qualified for the Thunderbirds award goes to a second LCAF Maxim Shiloh for its dash to try and rescue Best Fairy Ever. Instead, it was immobilised and destroyed in short order. Best Fairy Ever was captured by a mercenary Sloth Squad.

Finally, the Ignoring the Design Concept award went to Kommandant Norman Krasner and his Gotterdemmerung. Given a seemingly indestructible 'Mech, Norman was front and center of the Lyran assault, basically making a target of himself in the hope that the enemy would shoot him rather then anyone else. Instead, Norman came out of the battle with the least damaged Lyran 'Mech.

That deafening silence is the sound of Kommandant Krasner complaining.

The One Hit Wonder award goes to a thorn pilot who in the first round TACed an ammo crit on a minty fresh Crusader with an LRM5. Said Thorn pilot spent the rest of the game trying to hit everything at long range and so gained on the single miraculous kill.

The Eeyore award goes to the Princess commander who spent the entire game in her Battlemaster sulking in the woods and only rarely sniping with her PPC to no affect.

The Craptastic Four award goes to the strike lance of the 2nd Heavy Raiders. Surrounded by pirates and friendly militia these four gunslingers managed more militia kills than the pirates. How do you ask? Every pirate they destroyed seemed to have the same faulty fusion safety features. Hence, a really big boom which took out 2-4 militia per pirate kill. By the time the battle was over the pirates were dead and the militia was in disarray.

In another fight against the same pirates comes the following.

The Following too closely award goes to an unlucky Jenner pilot of the pirates who took a Medium Laser to the head and gyro, then fell down and was then kicked in the head.

On the opposite end goes Left hand Lucy who had the unfortunate luck of always getting hit on the left side no matter which way she was facing. By the end of the match her entire left side was down to 1 point of internal structure.

And finally comes Only you can prevent forest fires award goes to the sad Phoenix Hawk pilot who spent the match missing most shots and accidentally setting half the map on fire doing so.

Don't leg attacks means the infantry is on-board the 'Mech, and thus taken with it when it jumps?

I don't believe so, just swarm attacks. Swarm attacks put the infantry or BA all over the mek, leg attacks are pretty much ground level.

Nope, leg-attack is a separate attack that doesn't require swarming a target first. Though if I recall it is as difficult or nearly as difficult as swarming.

Edit: But even if they were swarming, jumping has a pretty good chance of knocking BA off, from what I recall.

But don't Leg Attacks, involve, you know, climbing on the 'Mechs legs?

A leg attack is a fairly brief affair. You're in the 'Mech's hex so it can't shoot at you (may try to kick later, though), make your attack, inflict your 4 damage plus vibro-claw bonus if any, check for crits, and it's over. You want to do the whole "climb on the 'Mech and stay there" routine, that's a swarm attack (and let's face it, the torso is probably much safer to try to cling to than the legs and feet anyway).

That's also, I imagine, why unless you're specifically a battle armor unit with only one or two troopers left leg attacks are in fact easier to pull off than swarming.
