Faithless' Project Thread
« on: 25 September 2014, 11:37:26 »
With the volume of stuff I work on, I decided to do just one thread. So, where we go.

I got a Blood Reaper this weekend but I did not like the legs on it.

So I did a leg mod using Madcat legs.

I also recently built a modded Stalking Spider 2. In game pic.

And my Marauder inspired by many talented individuals on this board.

Don't like that Stalking Spider, mainly because the flaming wreckage it's standing in front of was previously my Lament in that particular game... :D

It hit with a heavy large and two medium pulse forcing a psr. Which he failed. Then I kicked him while he was down and got a golden bb. Which resulted in two crits, directly to the gyro. We were both surprised.

I have been working on stuff, but have not posted any updates on here. I worked on some CJF mechs for our recent revival tournament.

I knocked out a few mechs today and used some mwda infantry for ejected pilot markers.

And a building in progress. It started life as the top of an Olive Garden carry out container.

Thanks. The Bushwacker I bought a few year's ago when the Battletech bug bit again. The Falcons I did myself. They are all magnetized in various ways to represent the configs. I later realized I left the missile rack off the top of the Daishi in the pic. The exception is the Battle Cobra, All it's configs could easily be represented without modular parts.

You know, I had seen that Olive Garden box in another picture . . . but I think you could make it a great light hanger when you get another.  Use a bit of cardboard for the walls to lift it to mech height . . . and you could even walk through.  Or a warehouse, it would work for that too . . .

. . . might have to see about going to Olive Garden with the wife.

Lol, just do not approach it from the right side for melee.

I cannot say anything, I finally tackled the MAD-9S and it will be stepping from off the hex.  The TBolt will stand in more than the hex and you saw the Solitaire that is running off.

What is the black & red mech in the background.

This is the mech bay I'm working on. I'll start a thread when it's painted. Also I find some mech legs lacking too, I modded this Lanner with Mad Cat legs (those things are great). I just wish the clans had a decent quad. I think the Bailius and Stalking Spider look horrible. I might do a mod on the Xanthos.

The mech bay and lanner look great.

Here are some project updates. We started a Wolf and Blake campaign so I had to get some Black Widow's ready. I was having trouble with my process and a friend gave me some spot on advice. So, I started over on them Friday night, to have them done to use Sunday. I have a bit more to do on them but I got them done enough to dullcoat before use. In that batch I also modded a Gallowglass inspired by ST's gallowglass into the variant used by the Widows.

And yes  my photography is lacking. For the time being that is as good as it will get.

In the final version of the Gallowglass I glued the old barrel in the upper right torso as the Er Large.

Which Battlemaster did you use for that?  I noticed the one from the intro box was a bit of a different posture from the IWM one that you have in blue.  Finally got around to getting the arms to stay on mine and I am looking at the plastic one to be modified into a -1D, cutting off the SRM6 rack for use elsewhere.

Your pictures are better than mine, also put the arms and pauldrons on the Marauder 9M2 so I will put up a picture of it on the old thread.  The other will be turned into something more standard, like a -2R.

The Battlemaster is the Calvin II and the Zeus is the Zeus X Stacy from the Wolf and Black Dragoons set. My Uziel and Griffin are not from the set. I was low on time and those were already built. My Battlemaster in the 4th LG colors is a normal pewter sculpt. I have no built my two plastic Battlemasters yet.

I looked at the plastic even though I have not built mine yet either.  The arm is straight making it point the weapon whichever way you want.  Which is why I was wondering if you had changed the pose a bit.

I found the WoB Celestial set with Berith's Archangel, I am wondering if I should use different configurations than the personal ones.

I haven't seen Robot Wars, so I can't comment.

Put a Fire Scorpion next to a Thunder Stallion, Bilious, and (arguably) the Stalking Spider, then it's a stunner!

Even stands up well to some of the IS quads on looks (although nothing will replace the Unseen Scorpion in my affections).

The old scorpy is nice. I like the xanthos too. BTW, robot wars is the horrible unnoficial sequel to robo jocks. It was horrifyingly bad. The stalking scorpion is weird, the fire scorpion odd. Compared to some other mechs, its nice, bit its what I call "Iraq Pretty". When you're in the desert long enough a 2 becomes a 10. I'm surprised there isn't a nice clan wolf totem mech, or a ghost bear.

I like the stalking scorpion figure, especially in the heavy large loadout. It is pretty fun to play too. I have another used one to build. I will need to make jump jets for it too. I have a reseen and unseen goliath. Plus when some stuff eventually shows up, a thunder stallion.

I built and magnetized my first Ares. There are magnets inside the shoulder pads as well for the variants with missiles. I still need to do some greenstuff work around the torso magnets.

I also magnetized my new sculpt Cauldron Bourne, along with a waste mod using the waist of the first sculpt madcat/vulture and some sprue.

It has became a habit. I got lazy on the templar I built recent and did not magnetize it. I keep thinking about correcting that error. I need to start buying the magnets in bulk. The packages at the shop are expensive for how many I use.

It is a nicely proportioned mini- I think it could do to be a bit bigger since it is not much larger than the Commando but it is closely matched by the plastic Spider and Hermes from the into box and a tad thicker than my Pack Hunter and Solitaire.

Nice, someone else put together all the mechs for the new Black Widows, I finally got my last one to finish the company last month, thanks to TS_Hawk. Now I just have to build them.

I see your doing mods, as I haven't really looked at loadouts for the mechs of th BW company, are your mods for how their mechs loadouts are per canonical loadouts?

Most of the mods are subtle pose changes and others to make them match configs. A few I went all in and some others I went close enough due to time constraints before use.

It is a great mod and a nice miniature. However, I'm afraid it is somewhat off, the center of gravity is too front canted and away from the feet. The effect is not realistic (yes, I know I'm talking about a 12 meter stompy robot) and may break the overall impression. Moving the left leg to have the feet of the left side closer to the front of the mech than the right side would solve this and then the mini will rock hard. Even more.

Have you seen the new king crab? Its so ****** off balance that without a large base, it CANNOT stand upright! Here it is with the shockwave and carronade, but this view doesn't do it justice. If you see a back view, this beautiful mechs horrible legs are oddly jointed, spindly, and horribly positioned. Its ridiculous.

I will take that into consideration.

I have one of the DA crabs too (soo many jokes) and I do not mind it. Although, I do like my modded one better. I am fighting the temptation of cutting up my other unmodded original king crab.

I used the following:

1 sprue reseen warhammer upper arm  - 20-201 D
2 sprue hammerhands rac arm - 20-443RACARM
seraph / archangel legs - 20-407B
primitive shadowhawk gun - not the scrap yard but you might be able to email them for it.

Psycho's is a bit different on the lower arm. He used parts of the warhammer arm. I went with the hammerhands rac arm since it had the same feel with less work.

The scheme is very good looking, congratulations!

However, I see a flaw in the yellow highlights. It is very clear in the Shrike. The problem is that yellow pigments are not thick enough and they don't cover properly a dark color. I had a hell of a time the first time I did this. If you paint the base of the yellow panel in white or light brown (better the last option) you will get better pigment coverage and a  more uniform color. Good luck!

I'm sorry, I'm just not a fan of the new APCs. They look terrible, and compared to minis like the micro armor ranges of GHQ and CinC, they just don't stand up. Those are sculpted under a microscope with exquisite detail, while these are cartoonish.

To each their own. I painted a lance of each motive type and used them in a campaign last weekend. They served their purpose as I needed 40 civilian vehicles for the track.

I have been neglecting this thread for awhile. So, time to reactive it.

I have been active doing other things  besides mechs.

Here is my build gallery for an Overlord dropship.

I build a bridge that was used on the show Death From Above on the HyperRPG twitch channel. Here is a gallery for that.

This is a bunch of Snow Ravens I am working on for a campaign. Disregard some of the weird arm choices. Many parts are magnetized and the arms are just hanging where ever.

Are these representing a particular unit, or just a generic set of 'mechs?  Are you using metallic blue paint for the cockpit windows?

The bay is built, mostly, from Zoids Mech Bay, and Repair Bay parts, and those people are N-scale, but they were replaced by smaller, Z-scale techs from the Herpa Scenics Airforce Ground Crew box.

This is just generic camo. The cockpit is just sky blue to white with a little glaze medium mixed in. After I seal them I may go back over that area with some gloss.

The overlord is built out of a big egg. I got it from Micheal's. It was a set of 3 nested, glitter infested eggs. If you go back to a my post a few days ago, the dropship gallery has pics of the whole build. If you have any questions please let me know.

I have a big foam ball for a union, I have had it a few years now, but I have a backlog of other projects to finish.

My guess would be it is one of those decorative eggs you find in the big box stores (Hobby Lobby, Michael's, A.C. Moore) around Easter time. I have one around here somewhere just for a project like Faithless's. Mine came with 3 eggs nested one inside the other. The largest one is the one I would use for the Overlord. Can't remember the price though.
