Look Who's Coming To Dinner:
Journal Entry from surviving Hetzer crew member:
This job for Kallon industries was supposed to be our stepping stone to bigger and better things. We were ending our six month rotation on Keid. I am not sure what specifically was in the warehouses we were guarding, and did not want to know. But it is all nearly gone now, with most of our unit.
It was a sunny day despite it being pretty cold. There had been talk of a winter storm system possibly coming through the area. We had a small amount of precipitation over night, but not the blizzard conditions that weather models had suggest. So, nothing out of the usual was going on. Then the situation deteriorated.
We started getting contacts from the south. At first it was just a single blip on the radar, then two, five, and then the next thing we know there were eight contacts. A full two lances of mechs. We had infantry spotters on the treeline south of base conducting normal patrols. Our fire support assets were set back a few hundred meters with our large elements dug in.
The first target to present itself was a Cicada. It was black with yellow and red stripes. Spotters tagged it and we unleashed hell. From the looks of it, we rocked him pretty good. Our Savannah Masters and Pegasus moved out to make initial contact with the rest of the enemy forces. Our Hetzer was near the back of the base. We were watching the right side. A Spider appeared out of nowhere, along with two Treb's. At first they ignored us and we tried to get some shots off. But their speed was too much for us. The remains forces that appeared on our left side were a Cataphract, Hunchback, and something that looked like a bloated guppy on stilts.
The intruders were making short work of the warehouses. They did not seem to be looking for any particular structure. Which ever one was closest, fire was concentrated on. Our hover crews were disabled very quickly. The crews survived, but they had to abandon ship. Our Rommel got some shots off on the Nightsky and Spider as they took our left flank. The Rommel nearly took the arm off the Nightsky and put it on the ground momentarily. Me and the rest of the crew in the Hetzer kept firing at the Spider, but it was too dang fast. Our LRM crews kept a constant barrage of missiles in the air and were able relieve the Spider of his left legs. As the small mech hit the ground, it's right leg gave way too. Our Behemoth tank had been dug in, a wooded area. As one of the Treb's walked by it unleashed and was able to hit the ammo. The pilot rode a pillar of fire into the sky. But just as quickly as we thought the tide was turning, the other Treb triggered the ammo in the Behemoth and blew it sky high. We lost some good men in that tank. But I did owe one of the crew a fair amount from poker debt. Anyways, at this point only one of the ten warehouses remained. We had lost all four hovercrafts, our Behmoth, and both Lrm carriers. We gathered our survivors, and retreated. Needless to say, this is probably our first and last job with Kallon Industries. I hope we can scrape together enough C-bills to get off planet.
