Novara class Support Cruiser
Though one of the larger capital ships operated by the Free Worlds League Fleet, the Novara is not often seen serving directly in the line of battle. Built around an extended range jump drive and six docking collars, the Novara functions essentially as an assault transport, able to move large numbers of troops, cargo, or support vessels with fair rapidity while still being sufficiently armed and armored to defend itself.
The ship's extended jump range also makes it a popular escort and response craft. In this role the Novara is often mated with a pair of Vengeance class carriers (or half a dozen smaller carriers) and escorted by a group of Swift Dragon class warships and their own assault dropships. In battle, this allows the valuable Novara to operate behind a screen of smaller, more expendable craft, without exposing itself to return fire. Should this screen fail, however, the Novara isn't exactly defenseless. Three heavy guns and a large battery of secondary cannon is more than adequate to eliminate assault dropships and inflict significant damage to small and medium capital ships, and certainly enough to finish off targets worn down by the ship's screening elements.
