Based on a heavily reinforced Cyclops chassis as well as a virtually legendary battlemech used by the equally legendary Clan Wolverine, the Pulverizer was the private project of Erin Glass, CEO of the Lyran industrial concern Rogger and Glass Incorporated. A former mechwarrior given a medical discharge from the LCAF, and considered "eccentric" in the best of times, Erin Glass intended the design, a visual copy of the original Clan Wolverine machine based on data contained in the so called "Blake Documents", to serve as much as a psychological weapon as a practical battlemech, intended to demoralize and enrage clan opponents, driving them to rash actions that could be exploited on the battlefield by Lyran Forces.

One of the means of achieving this psychological demoralization was to be the shear toughness of the design. A heavy duty gyroscope, the extra strong chassis, and a sheath of advanced clan armor was intended to allow the mech to continue advancing even under the most withering fire. All of this protection, however, along with the punishing mobility demands placed on the design by Glass, cuts deeply into the machine's ability to deliver damage. The Pulverizer's weapons load only just manages to compare favorably to some medium designs, leaving it outgunned by nearly every likely opponent on both sides of the occupation zone. Ever the optimist about his own ideas, Glass insisted that this was not a serious weakness, as the Pulverizer's job was to draw fire while its lancemates concentrated on delivering it.

Glass managed to keep this program mostly a secret, even from the LCAF, until his engineers had turned out their first field ready machine. Unveiled to LCAF Generals in early 3144, the initial response was mixed. The machine was praised for its toughness, but its limited throw weight was cause for concern. This guarded response turned to abject terror once strategic and historical analysts weighed in. Rather than providing any tactical benefit, using a design so clearly linked to the infamous Not-Named-Clan could potentially trigger even further escalation of the war between the Wolves, Falcons, and Commonwealth, and could even potentially bring the Rasalhague Dominion into the war (just as, it is believed, the release of the so called "Blake Documents" contributed to the Ghost Bear's entry into the Jihad). The final analysis described Glass' creation as "a mediocre offering built around a potentially catastrophic misunderstanding of our enemy's philosophies, culture, and history. Approval of the design for mass production would offer no significant benefits to the war effort, and has the potential to produce disastrous consequences."

Shortly after receiving word of the LCAF's rejection of the design, as well as notice of seizure of all plans, finished examples, and components related to the project, Erin Glass disappeared, taking with him the sole finished Pulverizer and as many spare parts as he could carry. Unconfirmed reports place his Pulverizer among pirate groups that have begun raiding worlds in the Wolf Empire.

Good news is the lab boys say the symptoms of asbestos poisoning show an immediate latency of 44.6 years. So if you're thirty or over you're laughing. Worst case scenario you miss out on a few rounds of canasta, plus you've forwarded the cause of science by three centuries. I punch those numbers into my calculator, it makes a happy face.
