Request: 3025-era tank, the Lupites Bovis.
« on: 22 October 2017, 17:31:36 »
In a sense it is a 40 ton Goblin-Bulldog mix.

Wanting 4/6 ICE speed.
Same LL and MG combo, can add a SRM-4.
Must have a minimum cargo of 4 tons.
Like to add some LRMs, prefer the -15 rack w/ decent ammo.
Options:
Paramedic equipment
Firefighter equipment
Bridge layer equipment
Thumper mod.

Tanks in advance!

You know how the US military has procurement problems? Requirements like this is how they get started...

40 ton 4/6 ICE tracked leaves 22 tons payload. Turret LL, MG, 4 tons cargo is 19 tons total.

Result: 3 tons left for armor. Add a front-mounted SRM4 and your down to a flat nothing armor.

Dropping the speed to 3/5 gives you another 4 tons, enough to get the armor up do a decent 7 tons. But not enough for any missiles. If you push it up to 50 tons at 3/5 you can get a SRM4+LRM5 and still get some armor.

Ohh we are building a Bradley huh

Honestly a 3025 ICE vehicle really shouldn't mount a LL that a waste of Mass, even if you consider you never have to reload it.

The LL isn't terrible - 14 tons in a turret compared to 15.5 for an AC/10 with 20 rounds. If you don't want to haul around ammo that's not too bad.

But in the OP the only realistic alternatives are to drop to a ML or switch to an AC/2 or AC/5.

14.5 counting the power amplifier.
Good news is the lab boys say the symptoms of asbestos poisoning show an immediate latency of 44.6 years. So if you're thirty or over you're laughing. Worst case scenario you miss out on a few rounds of canasta, plus you've forwarded the cause of science by three centuries. I punch those numbers into my calculator, it makes a happy face.

If you're willing to compromise on the engine, a fuel cell engine will get you a forty ton tracked vehicle with the requested four tons of cargo (I assume infantry), 4/6 mobility, a turret mounted large laser, bow mounted machine gun, and 8.5 tons for armor or possibly some secondary weapons.

If you're willing to compromise on the vehicle's mass, a 50 ton vehicle with an ICE will get you all of that, but only 6.5 tons for armor or secondary weapons.

If you're willing to compromise on the motive system, a wheeled 40 ton chassis can get you all of that, except you're down to five tons for armor or secondary weapons.

If you're willing to compromise on more than one of these things, well, you get more. If you're willing to compromise on none... you get nothing better than the goblins that already exist.

That is a lot of equipment that you are trying to shoe horn into one vehicle.  One way around that is to use trailers.  I fleshed out my ideas with pen and paper.  If anyone wants to double check my numbers, you are more than welcome to do so.

Lets start with the tracked combat vehicle/tractor.
Lupites Bovis:
40 tons
 4 internal structure
12 160 ICE
 2 control systems
 0.5 turret
 5 Large Laser
 8 heat sinks
 0.5 power amplifier
 0.5 machine gun
 0.5 1/2 ton MG ammo
 7 tons of standard armor

movement:  4/6
armor
front: 23
left: 22
right: 22
rear: 22
turret: 23

equipment:
Large Laser (turret)
Machine Gun (front)
MG AMMO 100 (body)
Trailer Hitch (rear)

Crew: 3

Next, lets look at the SRM wheeled trailer.  It is designed to either be towed, or deployed by itself with a minimum movement capacity.
10 ton
 1 internal structure
 1 10 ICE
 0.5 control systems
 2 SRM-4
 1 SRM AMMO
 4.5 tons armor

movement (by itself):  1/2
armor
front: 18
left: 18
right: 18
rear: 18

equipment:
SRM-4 (rear)
SRM Ammo 25 (body)
trailer hitch (front)
trailer hitch (rear)

Crew: 1

Finally, lets add an APC wheeled trailer.
10 tons
 1 internal structure
 4 infantry bay
 5 tons armor

movement: 0
armor
front: 20
left: 20
right: 20
rear: 20

equipment:
4 ton infantry bay (body)
trailer hitch (front)
trailer hitch (rear)

Crew: 0

Just one thing to remember, adding trailers to a tractor modifies the movement, slowing the tractor down.  If my numbers are correct (fingers crossed) the tractor by itself moves 4/6.  With one trailer, it moves 3/5, and with two trailers it moves 2/3.

No Problem.  Use a Goblin, and pull a trailer; RL-10 trailer, MASH trailer, FFX trailer, Bridge/Engineering Trailer, wheeled Field Gun (not sure how they handle field guns, never got to play with those).
