Primitive Orion
« on: 03 December 2017, 22:03:27 »
I thought some might appreciate some shots of the ON1-H Primitive Orion...or as close as I can get as I did a bit of modification.

The modification is basically my version of the ON1-V Orion.

Not quite done, need to add antennas and then paint.

Ral Partha's definitive ON1-K Orion and the IWM ON1-H/V Orion comparison.

Overall very good sculpt with a few minor nitpicks and I'm thrilled at the scaling as its in-line with the majority of the original Ral Partha line from the 80s.  Nice "crisp" details and pose-ability.  The AC needs to be drilled out, but that was relatively simple to do.  I'm going to add antennae more inline with the artwork.  Credit due to both the artist and sculptor.

Paint scheme is up between FWLM Marik Militia or Terran Hegemony OD Green or Khaki...maybe I'll have it done professionally for the first time ever.  Any takers?

I also picked up a Primitive T-bolt for a friend/coworker and modified it a bit...too bad the scale is so drastically different as its a neat mini.

Which one is 65 tons and which is 75 tons again?

Hope you enjoy the pics.

I didnĀ“t knew it looked so crazy good. Am I the only one who massively uses these primitive designs as proxies for the horrible Loose design?

Wow, the 'new' Orion's design and pose just seems a lot more menacing than the old one.  Currently putting together a primitive Archer which looks to be a good proxy for the original.

Thanks for posting.  The Primitive Orion looks much better mini-wise than the original Orion! New sculpt not so bad, but I like how the launcher is solid on the Primitive.

I think the only beef I have of it is the scaling between the Thunderbolt (Primitive) and the Orion (Primitive).

It's interesting how the Primitives look better, but were eventually obsolete and replaced by the clunkier things.

This is why I'm planning on using primitive sculpt for some of my 'Mechs in place of their nominal sculpts.  The TDR-1C and BNC-1E are two examples.

In other news, this is actually the first time I'm laying eyes on the Orion-P.  It's a nice model, I like it!

So far I love all of the Primitive sculpts that have come out. They jusypt look so much better than the standard versions! I also just got the Prim Tbolt and the size is insane! 😂 I just figure the Primitive armor and structure is a lot bulkier for the weight than modern standard (made from 100% handwavium Here! 😉)

Now... if only they would make the Swordsman... 😍

Dak has had the 3D model for the Swordsman done for quite some time now.
Just takes a while, what with all that's in the queue at IWM at present.
I'd showoff a picture of the [amazing] printed miniature, but...
I don't want my hand chopped-off by IWM 'nonjas. Or, Dak...

The primitive looks much nicer than the original.  BUT...that T-Bolt....DAMN....looks like it should be an 85-90 tonner.  Either it's to big or the Orion Primitive is too small.

Thanks, man. Happy you like it. Although, Dak took it to an entirely new level with the 3D model. Can't wait for you guys to view it. Sorry for the thread drift.

Unfortunately I've not had the time to paint mine yet...despite the holiday.

Maybe this weekend.
