(Answered) Subcapital Weapons in Atmosphere
« on: 16 October 2014, 19:07:41 »
Hi.

I originally privately send this question to Xotl fearing this was going to be dupicate question.  However, I was informed i should post it.  So here it is.  This what I asked with some editing.

Quote
Can a Pocket Warship while operating in atmosphere, be able to use its sub-caps against targets like a fighter strafing or be able to engage in combat with another dropship/aerospace unit while operating in a planet atmosphere?

While air-to-surface attacks are possible, it's orbital bombardment from the air, not strafing.

There's no air-to-air option, but there is an air-to-space option.

Question 1] - So if a Pocket Warship is operating in high atmosphere, it can at distance fire it's capital weaponry on a ground target.  However, it would not be able to use them in straffing or Strike attack like Aerospace Fighter/Conventional/Small Craft(?) are able to do, correct?

Question 2] - So if example a Pocket WarShip operating in Atmosphere levels, spots a duplicate Pocket WarShip in orbit, it may fire it's Sub-Capital weaponry at it.   However, if the target is in high level Atmosphere the attacking ship can not fire and neither can the target.  Correct?

Strategic Operations, p. 103: "If a situation is not listed below, then the attack cannot be made using capital or sub-capital weapons; for example, an airborne-to-airborne attack cannot be made."

That should cover your cases.
