question regarding Archives
« on: 21 February 2011, 13:27:29 »
I'm relatively new, and was looking through IWM web site, and was curious,  at what point does a mini go into the Archives?  is it a lack of customer interest in the mini?

That, or being a Capellan design.  :-\

I'm honestly not sure of the exact method to determine either way, but likely it's poor sales. One of our forum-goers who volunteer over there might be able to shed more light than I can.

That oversight is about to be rectified...as soon as next month, I believe.
Re-releases of two CC lance packs are scheduled: Light/Medium and Heavy/Assault packs.
CSO's Ogre is doing the first, I'm doing the second.

I think that is synonymous with lack of interest

And I got a fair idea the kinda personal emotions that some of you fellas may be thinkin'. Heck, I reckon you wouldn't even be human bein's if you didn't have some pretty strong personal feelin's about nuclear combat.

Back when the archives were first announced, it was because the minis had seen 12 or less orders that year.

The thing that really sucked was that they archived some of the online only stuff that hadn't even been available for a full year at that point.

Both rounds of the Archive were selected by those that sold less then 12 a year. This way what is in Distribution was more stream lined.

The Challenger X and the Nightstar sold less than 12 mini's in one year? That boggles the mind for such great designs.
I don't set an example for others. I make examples of them.

They've been around for a long time, plenty of people have them, and they're not especially iconic the way the Atlas or Mad Cat are.  Also, they're pretty faction specific.  So it's entirely reasonable that there wouldn't be that big of a demand for them anymore.

the good news as that both rounds of archiving were given fair warning which allowed people who were always on the fence about minis to buckle down and buy them.

I also had two experiences where I wanted to buy archived items and the archive fee was waved due to number of units ordered, so the fee is negotiable.

That is leading to a question I wanted to ask.

If I want to buy an archive mini you have to pay the archive $8.00 fee on top of the mini price?

Just for the first one, the rest of that particular item cost the base price -- i.e., Archive Mech X base cost is $12.00.  You order 4 of them and pay $12 + $8.00 for the first and $12.00 each for the other three for a total of $56.00 ( + S&H ).  You do not pay $20.00 each.
