I felt like the Tomahawk was descended from the Masakari.

Tomahawk is a Dire Wolf built on a Warhawk frame. but IMO both the Dire Wolf and the Warhawk have a lot of King Crab in their ancestry.

Admittedly that ain't much of an improvement. :s

No arguing about taste. I think the original King Crab - including the miniature - is visually one of the best Mechs (definitely as far as 2750 is concerned) and any attempts to improve on it since have lessened it.

Oh, and the KGC-0000 in 3039 and KGC-001 in 3050U are some of Lewis' best work IMO. Spitting image of the miniature in the latter's case  ;)

The Tomahawk looks more like a super sized Nova or cousin to the Supernova to me.  If it was a Supernova derivative though,  it would have the King Crab lineage.

This exactly. Isn't it stated explicitly in the Supernova's fluff?

I always disliked that image of the King Crab. I did think the 2750/3050 images were the best. That image looks like its heading off to become the McDonald's Mayor McCheese that the MWDA mini looked like.

It is:
"A second-line Clan 'Mech feared by many Inner Sphere pilots, the Supernova seems to be an advanced version of the Black Hawk, though it was actually developed before that venerable OmniMech. Plans to replace the King Crab's load out with clusters of Large Lasers grew from a shortage of autocannon ammunition. The first prototypes met with little success due to the King Crab's integral Ferro Fibrous armor, but gave rise to a lighter and leaner new design."

I prefer painting it orange and calling it The Great Pumpkin.
I thought that was more of an Imp theme.

No, the Imp looks more like an Easter Egg.  The King Crab is definitely a Jack O' Lantern.
