Buck's Barnbusters Vs. Nova Cat brigands
« on: 25 June 2016, 22:09:32 »
April 24, 3060. Bryant: Lantren Corporation R&D Facility Ruins.

The Barnbusters have been hired by the New Home Provisional Government to raid a brigand base on Bryant. They find themselves fighting against clan deserters and pirates for a Star League cache instead.

AAR (addressed to the NHPG's liaison officer):

Dear Lt Ogawa,

First, let me applaud your commitment to your orders; your desire to enter a combat zone is to be applauded. I was glad to hear your wounds were not severe, and I sincerely hope you recover quickly. If you ever find yourself needing the Barnbusters, there will always be place on our ship for you. Your skills would be highly valued within our organization.

On to Business;
    Pursuant all operations up to and including the combat action dated April 24, 3060 and recovery operations thereafter;

    The Barnbusters were able to safely ground out on the continent of Voltanasia, and set up storm shelters and facilities within range of the first objective area. The frequency and intensity of the storms are not to be understated; all of the stories told of Bryant are quite accurate.

    After conducting initial security operations and insuring a safe operating base, the Barnbusters moved in force to secure the facility per Lt. Ogawa’s intelligence and instructions. A lull in the storm provided a perfect opportunity for unit maneuvers, and there was no environmental effect on the battle.

    Upon entering the operational area, the Barnbusters moved to encircle the facility and trap all raiders present. Of deep concern to the recon lance and the on-site commander was the presence of Clan forces, consisting of a Nova Cat and a Peregrine, in addition to an addition lance of enemy mechs and mixed vehicle and infantry assets.

    The Barnbusters held to their operational doctrine, and were able to advance on both the facility and hostile forces without significant incident. Upon open engagement, the clan forces were quickly routed and forced to evacuate the facility, and the bandit vehicles and infantry were captured for interrogation. The liaison officer and the unit’s executive officer were both injured as a result of the battle; both are expected to recover fully.

    Once the operational was secured, and salvage obtained, Lt. Ogawa discovered the true purpose of the facility and identified it as a Star league cache; a search was quickly arranged and stores containing roughly one hundred million c-bills worth of Grasshopper Battlemechs were identified.

Tully MacAuliffe

For once, I wanted to show mechs at their actual scale in a battle. This pic captures the heat of the engagement in approximately true scale:

The Barnbusters advance, using the few standing structures for cover.

A single Nova Cat mech, piloted by a deserter named Callon from the 4th Nova Cat Regulars, challenges the Barnbusters to cross no man's land.

At this point, the brigand armored assets are both being eliminated. The demolisher crew would be wiped out from a single large laser searing through the cabin.

The Archer is too late in lending fire support to turn the tide. Retreat is all but imminent.

The Archer and Stinger will escape the conflict. The infantry platoons will be forced to surrender.

A fierce brawl erupts between the retreating brigands and Barnbusters Stinger. Both parties withdraw with heavy damage.
