(Answered) When the effects of sleet are lost...
« on: 19 November 2016, 07:41:28 »
PDF p60
Looking over the sleet rules for shift wind conditions and want to make sure I am reading this correctly as it looks as if the answer (assumed) is implied by not stated.

Quote
If players are using
the Shifting Winds rules (see p. 57) and the wind shifts to a Light
Gale, the effects for sleet are lost

Reading this it would appear that the change removes
+1 tohit
-40C temperature
Wind effects drop to Light Gale or Calm
Ice formation turn count halts until wind returns to moderate gale or better and Sleet effects renewed.

So, is the above correct or does

a. the temperature remains constant at -40 and isn't lost

b. the turn count for ice resets and starts over.

Yeah, that doesn't make any sense.  Delete the Moderate Gale paragraph.

The idea that sleet is always at -40 is also goofy, but then again they have moderate snowfall including the effects of -50, so I can only assume that the rules were written by Floridians or something.

That doesn't really help the situation as that just makes sleet another light snowfall.

Sleet is fine but it needs a little clarification.

If I were to make a ruling I would remove the section pertaining to shifting winds rather than the entire moderate gale section.

Sleet creates ice: that's the difference.  And there's no reason why it should only have to have that specific wind speed.

(It also uses an American definition of sleet, which is very confusing to me.  I didn't realize Yanks termed sleet differently from the rest of the world).
