Any tips on that Smoke Jag camo pattern?
« on: 22 May 2017, 15:36:47 »
Long time no post, but I'm back with my long languishing paintless Clan Mechs and a plan.

That plan? Smoke Jaguar Delta Galaxy.
The tricky part is getting the leopard camo right and not ending up with terrible looking spotty mechs.

Any tips? ???

I'd go grey then dry brush light grey over it in varying degrees of weight.
For the spots don't try to keep them evenly shaped, sized or spread.

Ok, good advice. I'll keep that in mind. I have a few leopard pattern examples to work off too but 2D patterns don't always translate well onto 3D objects.

Try a thinned black ink wash. Washes tend to help blend colours, as well as adding detailing.

For my SJ Alpha, I did light grey, then dark grey spots, and drew in the spot-markings with a fine tip black felt pen. Then hit with a thinned black wash. Came out good, IMHO.

Wow, I'd be worried the black felt pen would run when you washed it. Glad it worked, I might just pencil out the pattern a bit before I go for the paints.

Yes I have a pic of the camo specs puma which is one of the mechs I'm painting so it'll be the first as its the easiest to copy an example and ita also the easiest shape to do this on.
They've been sitting in my drawer in work all bank holiday weekend so I'll be able to get  back to work on them now, that I'm back to work.
I'll post pics when im getting somewhere.
They're just dull grey mechs right now.

Thanks folks.
