Landmark Heavy Hover MBT
« on: 16 July 2017, 08:23:09 »
I accidentally double-posted the Derecho, so you get a bonus vehicle!

The Landmark MBT was intended as a multi-purpose vehicle that could operate in watery and coastal environments without the difficulty that even Battlemechs experience in such terrains.  It carries a very versatile pair of main guns which make it effective against Mechs, but also extremely effective against airborne units, conventional vehicles and infantry.  As backup weaponry, the vehicle also uses a pair of 5-tube Multi-Missile Lanuchers, often bringing at least one ton of Smoke SRM ammo for battlefield control, and often using its second ton of ammo to accentuate the effectiveness against whatever type of target the Landmark is expected to face.
Many generals point to the Landmark's huge profile as a fatal flaw.  At nearly double the height of similar massed tracked vehicles (most of the size accounted for by the lift skirt and other motive equipment) the Landmark is hard to miss, both visually and as a target.  It partially makes up for this with smoke cover and speed that puts it in the same class as many medium treaded vehicles.  It partially offsets some of the vulnerability of the lift skirt by also having an armored flotation hull beneath, insuring the safety of the crew to a degree when operating over water.

This is yet another unit with an XXL engine that costs as much as a company of like units . It is also slower than it's competition .  The fluff text on the Dimorgan with the 3 ER-PPCs is  that it requires the manufacturer to have generous financing deals to sell any and it cost less than half of the Landmark MBT . Most militia does not have deep pockets .  They prefer something like a 800,000 C bill hover tank . Makes replace , repair , and maintenance far easier when the unit does not costs more than your yearly budget . The 2 extra locations to armor hurts a lot as well .

I'll agree the extra armor locations hurts its single-shot resistance pretty badly, but the engine is a regular XL, and not even a very big one at that.  It costs about the same as a similar armed Battlemech, and is effectively a faster, seaworthy version of the M3 Moltke (which granted, is half the price).

I suppose I didn't really say anything about it in the initial description, but this isn't for militia.  It's a generalist bodyguard for blue water navy and beach landing operations, the first being crazily outside of militia budget to begin with and the latter being too specialized a maneuver for most mercs and simply irrelevant for militia.

It's a tank for a house-unit that has more c-bills than it has qualified mechwarriors.
