Miniature of the Fortnight #21: Orion
« on: 16 July 2017, 21:54:23 »
This fornight, we look at one of the better known 'Mechs from TRO 3025, the Orion, known as a mainstay of the FWL military and the one-time ride of Theodore Kurita.  Oh, and the 'Mech of Aleksandr Kerensky during the Amaris Civil War.  It also holds the distinction of being one of the few non-Unseen 'Mechs that had a plastic mini during the FASA days (from the CityTech boxed set).

These are the sculpts I am aware of, in approximate chronological order:
  • The original metal sculpt of the ON1-K (20-848).
  • The CityTech plastic mini, which I assume is based on the metal sculpt.  I believe this one represents the ON1-M. (I haven't seen this one personally.)
  • The resculpt of the ON1-K (20-397).
  • The Kerensky variant sculpt, representing Kerensky's personal 'Mech.  It also comes with a mini of General Kerensky. (20-5005).
  • The plastic mini from CGL's Battle Lance Pack, which appears to be based on the original metal sculpt.

A future post will cover the Orion IIC.

Like always, please post any minis you'd like to share!

Thank you for reading and a special thank you to those of you who post!

Our next fortnights will be:
  • Clan (7/30): Viper (Dragonfly)
  • Inner Sphere (8/13): Jenner

Orions!

And in more detail:

Oldest, lead mini in generic camo, a complement to the ON1-VA - I'd have sworn there was a canon model which drops the SRM-4 for more armour & ammo, but can't find it now. Next, a Magistracy Cavaliers unit, CityTech plastic in ON1-V configuration. Next to it, another ON1-V - lead this time - in Orloff Grenadier colours, and then a Hansen's Roughriders camo CityTech ON1-M.

(And yes, the SRM is in the arm, the way nature intended.)

A ralladium Ryuken-Ni ON1-MC; I went representative with the missile tubes. Behind it, a Lance Pack ON-1MDC, with the second cockpit above. Thirdly an Atrean Guards ON-2M, and finally - and why not? - a Perseus D config. The D normally has no weapons in the left arm, nor a hand actuator - I thought that looked a little silly. It is an Omni, after all.

W.

Edit - better now?

* The Hellbringer is cool, either way. It's not cool because it's bad, it's cool because it's bad with balls - Nightsky
* It was a glorious time for people who felt that we didn't have enough Marauder variants - HABeas2, re "Empires Aflame"

Hi everyone -- Here are the three Orions I have done so far --

The three are a 7th Crucis Lancers Orion, a Marik Militia Orion (headcanon -- piloted by Force Commander Andrej Stokowski, batallion commander in the 30th Marik Militia ca. 3019), and a Kurita Orion in camo meant to evoke WW2 Japanese tanks (intnded to be the Dieron Regulars, but can be used for any Kurita formation that uses camo regularly)

BTW -- I missed out on some of the other MOTFs (a broken foot laid me up then a trip to Ireland intervened), is it OK to back-post, or are those considered closed?

For a sign of how far behind I am, I finished my Marik Militia Orion yesterday.  This is the plastic mini from the Lance Packs.
