There are printout counters of the 24 introductory box mechs that can be downloaded off the main site.
There is? Never noticed, but then without a printer i kinda don't bother looking. Paper is not cardboard though. On the other hand, it is easy enough to glue some paper counters to cardboard bases for sturdier counters.
Either way, it would be practical to have some in a intro box or such.

Paper is not cardboard though.
Go to your local print shop and ask for Cardstock, problem solved.

So, no ilClan for GenCon? Guess I can tell my agent on the scene to stand down.  :(

Hey look! Battlemech Manual!
Good news is the lab boys say the symptoms of asbestos poisoning show an immediate latency of 44.6 years. So if you're thirty or over you're laughing. Worst case scenario you miss out on a few rounds of canasta, plus you've forwarded the cause of science by three centuries. I punch those numbers into my calculator, it makes a happy face.

BattleMech Manual. It's a new rulebook for standard BattleTech that includes basically all the rules that apply to 'Mechs  (and only 'Mechs), compiled and revised from the core rulebooks. It's a new point of entry and a handy guide.

Quick glance through the battlemech quirk list shows a lot of revisions, some of which contradict recent books, like Second Succession War (battlemaster lost it's weak head armor).

On the one hand, a purist might say that one or the other is in error. On the other hand, quirks are highly variable so, there's no reason both sources can't be true. It's a conundrum. One that decides just how exciting it is to drive a locust (no torso twist and cramped cockpit with no arms, or just no arms?)

Please don't take this as criticism, but simply me having not yet gone through the book enough to properly gush about it.

So we have 2 new books that are designed to bring in new players.  Pretty cool.

How are they supposed to play?  The imaginary box set?

The Battlemech Manual is worth it for the equipment and weapons descriptions alone.

They're supposed to sarcasm things into existence.

Or, you know, buy one of the cheap electronic copies of the map packs, some minis, and play the game. Not ideal, but for now it works.

Unless Adrian was blowing smoke up my arse we got a MAYBE by or before the end of the year. But it would be really nice if the surprise for gencon is some next day shipments of the first new intro/starter boxes. I am really impatient for the new box set. Really really want to see the classics in plastic. And really really irked IWM had to pull the Wasp and Valkyrie.

Unless it was said or I missed something...  It's just really disappointing to see that the Box Set and ilClan was pushed out past Gencon.  I expected something better.

The BMM and TRO:SW are acceptable entry points into the game. Not ideal, sure, but they fill in a major gap in the line.

I'm most excited to see the ilClan better closer to its release date more and more!

Will they release the 3250 book in 2018? I can't wait to see a TRO 3250  :D

I'm told [a 2017 release]'s not likely.
Also, there's never been a release date for IlClan.  That needs to be pointed out.

Long dead.

Though in fairness, if they're not, with all the 3250 talk in 2SW and the newly-release TRO, they are epically trolling certain segments of the fanbase... and I don't think they have it in them to do that.

3250, as planned by Herb Beas, went away when he was fired. It's still a thematically-appropriate year for the next touchpoint.

I don't get your post. The Succession Wars series were released, so were the Handbook House Kurita and Interstellar/Campaign Ops. Unless they postpone ilClan indefinitely the book is getting closer and closer to its release date
