==Overview:==
The rotund, 4,600-ton Byzantium contains a number of design features not
usually found on other craft. First launched in 3067, it is equipped with roomy
but spartan crew facilities. These facilities include a sophisticated command and
control center, an extensive medical bay, a number of double occupancy quarters,
and roomy mess and recreation rooms.
The Byzantium’s internal bays are divided into four areas. Each of the three
’Mech bay holds a full lance, for a total of 12 ’Mechs. The fourth bay is occupied
by a repair and maintenance facilities and a trio of large cranes mounted in the
ceiling of the bay. These cranes enable crews to make extensive repairs in the field.
The drop chutes, located below of the three ’Mech bays, can each deploy a lance of
’Mechs while the craft is in space or atmosphere.
The Byzantium is notably fast for a dropship, and overall is well armed and
armored. While it lacks fighter bays, it does mount dual Arrow IV artillery missile
launcher systems on retractable mounts in the nose bays, which enable each Byzantium
to assist in ground campaigns. A 20 man unit of Battle Armor Marines are also carried,
for ship or boarding actions.
