Paint it Pink Chop & Paint Shop
« on: 26 January 2011, 13:58:35 »
Currently on my workbench are a bunch of mechs I've decided to refurbish, because they have old paint that needs freshening up. These are all my UN Spacey Macross mechs that are going to be the basis of another unit, stripping the paint off some of my old Pink Panther mechs, and taking the time to rebuild and modify the models as I went along. Those who revere the classic unseen should probably look away now...

I had two of these Wasps:

Now they look like this:

I've chopped them about from their classic static legs apart stance, widening the angle of the right leg  and modding the arm on one, while the other is animated in a caught in motion pose with the head turned the other way. Two tough looking little hombres now.

My original Warhammers:

Now:

I'm really pleased with the one on the left as I managed to open out the whole stance and I think catch some of the excitement of the original artwork that FASA used for Warhammers back in the day.

My Rifleman:

Now:

I have two more Riflemen not finished, so this one is just a basic torso twist variant with leg off the ground to add visual instability to the piece.

Next is my Longbow, before:

And after:

Not much you can do with a Longbow, but I did repair the search light and fix a moulding ding.

Finally my Crusader:

Now looks like this:

I'm really, really  pleased with this, since opening leg stance and reposing the arm transforms the model into a really nice piece. They are all going to be repainted in the French WW1 jigsaw camo. That's it for now, and I hope you all enjoy seeing my humble fumblings.

Well, there's nothing wrong reposing Unseens, and you've done a nice job of it. Thanks for displaying them before painting, as this may inspire a few of us to the same to our minis

I must say I'll be looking forward for seeing their new paint jobs. I like French WW1 camo a lot too.  ;)

Love those reposes, the Warhammer and Crusader in particular.  the spacing on the arms of the warhammer...wow.  i always hated how those arms were squeezed up against the body.

Thank you all for the kind comments and praise, much appreciated. I have a few more unseen being reposed and will post them in due course, give me a week to sort out photos etc. I will try to post about once a week on here on what I've been doing, but I'm a slow worker, so please be patient with me.

The medium laser on the "original" painted version looks very different to what you have shown as reposed??? What's the story. The painted one has a cut out section on the end of it's barrel.

Ignoring that, they look like great reposes.  Hope they turn out okay. The warhammer modification really amazed me, gives it a whole new look.

Paint it Pink,

Thank you for all the positive feedback, now for some of my non-canon stuff, here are a few pictures of my House Steiner mechs.

The old Scorpion was always a bit static so I chopped up the legs to add a more dynamic feel losing the static pose by adding movement to improve what is a nice sculpt.

The original IMO Goliath looks okay as it is, but I have several, so I thought for my second one I would see about reposing the legs.

This was a bit tricky to do, but it does at least show that with some lateral thought it can be done. Though I now have another idea for reposing the legs with cuts in different places, which I will have to try. Finally, here are three glamour shots of the finished models.

The Scorpion, which is currently a players ride in my campaign and named Esmeralda by the pilot.

A Goliath from Alpha battalion.

Finally the reposed Goliath, and just for everyone's information the dazzle camo was inspired by German WW1 Aircraft Jasta's (squadrons).

Takes courage to repose old figures.  Even more to strip them first.
Good job reposing those old models.   The new poses really give those old figures life.

Simply gorgeous! Wundabar!
We hear that there are tumults and riots in Rome, and that voices are raised concerning the army and the quality of our soldiers. those are very cool.  I think the Warhammer on the left is my favourite, just because it's a couple of simple changes that make it work much better.

Been a while since I posted here, because over the last couple of months I've been dealing with the demands of life resulting from the illness that led to the death of my mother-in-law. So here are some pictures of my battle armour squads I've been working on, and boy these hard to take decent pictures of using the simple camera I have:

Grey Death heavy battle armour figures from the MW:AoD range rebased and painted followed by scout suit squad:

I have what I consider a full platoon of 21 figures of each type that I can now field, and they have actually been played with. All part and parcel of my Operation Sandbox Mummerset Campaign, which is being played with combined arms forces. This is very much pushing the envelope of what can be done in an afternoons gaming session, but the experience is providing hard play test data of what can be thrown out of the rules to speed up play, yet still keep the BattleTech flavour.

Finally some posed House Steiner wargame goodness showing my Newten Town 10mm Fieldworks buildings, classic unseen mechs and the MW:AoD Battle Armour squads set together:

So finally those of you who wanted to know how big the buildings looked with the mechs can make your own minds up whether or not my choice of mixing battlemech scale mechs with MW:AoD infantry with Fieldworks 10mm scale building works together or not. Me, I think it all looks pretty lush, but YMMV.

Nitromors, a product available in Britain for stripping paint from wood. Deadly to plastic, but works lovely on metal miniatures.

Thank you, comments like that are like stars on the darkest night.

Still a work in progress, but I will be posting something on my blog about what I've been doing to turn tourney BattleTech into quick-play RPG campaign BattleTech.
