Is there anywhere to find, in an electronic format the story Tale of the Green Ghosts?

Nothing on the major sites, nothing on the used book sites (what few there are). Someone may want to try and contact the stories author and see if he would be willing to post a copy online. That would be the fastest way.

If all else fails start calling around to used book stores and let them know you are after Games Unplugged issue 29.

There's a distinct chance that the author signed a contract that doesn't allow him to post the story. Hard to say.

I need to find this also :)

This has come up before. I did some research, and I couldn't find any evidence that Games Unplugged 29 was ever actually printed or shipped. For example, Noble Knight doesn't even have an entry for any issues past 28, and they have a webpage for everything. I can't find a photo of the cover, I can't find a listing on old order forms, I can't find anything.

I strongly suspect that if any copies were printed, they were in very limited numbers and possibly seized (and if so, likely destroyed) by whatever agency arrested and convicted the owner of the magazine for wire fraud.

That said, a contract is a contract. If whoever wrote the story signed away republication rights - and was paid - that's that, it can't be reprinted.

On the other hand, "long lost" variant art for the Awesome that was supposed to be in that issue has now appeared in a CGL product.  Variant art for the Hunchback and Hatamoto, that appeared in prior issues, also have appeared in recent CGL products.  There may be a glimmer of hope for the story.

Ray Arrastia.

No, I kid. Obviously. I think all we have is that the story was supposed to be printed in Games Unplugged #29. I couldn't even tell you that it was written, given all the issues (heh) with the publication around that time.

I bet one of our eager members will post about how he saw a copy in the bargain bin of a FLGS somewhere. OP will jump in his car and drive down there only to find the FLGS burned to the ground, with some strange green-painted metal wreckage lying nearby, marked with a snake coiled around a sword set against a blood-red disk .

All copies of Games Unplugged #29-34 are being held in the same location as the first edition ComStar sourcebook.

I'm actually being serious here, to a degree. I simply don't think they exist.

Ah, Sarna says "Tale of the Green Ghosts" was written by Chris "Bones" Trossen. Want to drop him a note, Ray?

If this magazine follows most others you sell the story and the mag has the rights until an anthology is released. Once that is done all reprint rights revert back to the author. Now, if Games Unplugged is not even in print any longer then who has reprint rights *should* revert back to the author regardless. Short stories for mag are not handled the same as novels.

In any event the author should know what can be done.

This is not always true. I call attention to the fact that the magazine was being run by a known fraudster. This is not trolling or character assassination; it is a fact, and he went to prison for it. But that still would not nullify any contracts signed, as long as he upheld his end (i.e., paid the author).

Entirely true, however said fraud accusation implies at least SOMEONE wasn't paid.  Whether that counts the story as, technically, evidence somehow, I don't know, but...it's just a giant question mark.  Is there a court record that at least mentions any evidence, possibly said written IP, perhaps?

Guys, we don't even know if the story was written, and already we're talking about contracts and court documents in a fraud trial? C'mon.

Agreed. The first thing to do is ask the author if he ever wrote it. If he didn't, then this entire thread is moot.......

Good luck with that.

FYI, I don't know if the magazine ever came out or not, but I can say our archives have everything provided to them, Randall's articles, the artwork and Bone's (Christopher Trossen's) fiction. We've got issue 26 material, then 27, then 28....and a blank folder for 29.

So I don't know what to tell you.

Speaking as a fan, any chance of seeing those items in Catalyst products?

That's pretty strong evidence for "never written."
