« on: 31 July 2016, 06:54:38 »

What about a Hollander variant with a Thumper? Might have to do something weird like a compact gyro to get it to fit in the torso, but the tonnage should work.
Half the fun of BattleTech is the mental gymnastics required to scientifically rationalize design choices made decades ago entirely based on the Rule of Cool.

The other half is a first-turn AC/2 shot TAC to your gyro that causes your Atlas to fall and smash its own cockpit... wait, I said fun didn't I?

I'm sure that would work in the Clan era.  Heck, I think you can fit it on an Urbanmech with Endo-Steel and such (and still have a reasonable amount of armor).

Thumper on an UrbanMech works fine. Take a UM-R70L, remove the AC/20 and 11th heat sink, add Thumper, carry 1 ton of ammo. Backup weapon is 1 small laser.

That said, that's a nifty Centurion.

You mean the -60L?  The -70 is post clan invasion.  I didn't like dropping it down to Locust armor, which is what I meant by "math didn't quite work".

Thanks, though!  I went with parts Corean could source in 3025 (the Thumper being from Hesperus II, everything else on New Avalon).

Yeah, typo. Meant the R60L, the Cappie AC/20 packing Urbie. And it's armor reduction is less an issue for an artillery unit.

Less of an issue for an artillery unit that can run away, sure.  2/3/2 won't exactly keep you out of trouble.
