(Answered) Buildings, CF and Size
« on: 22 January 2017, 18:57:06 »
Reading through the manual on Buildings, it seems that the CF values for buildings are a flat value regardless of the size of the building's foot print.

As an example, in regular battletech, a Building's CF is on a per hex basis, so a 1 hex building has a CF of X, and a 4 hex building has a CF of X per hex, and would only require the destruction of 2 hexes to eliminate.

However, in AS it appears that a buildings CF is that amount regardless of how large the building is. a Building that is 2" x 2" (rough equivalent of a Standard BT hex) is X, a 4" x 4" building (or 4 BT hexes) is still the same CF.

In fact, this makes large buildings easier to destroy in AS as a unit merely needs to get close to any point of the building and start hammering away, even if that point is the furthest point from another part of the building also taking damage.

Just wish to ensure I am not missing something here.

Players may choose to define a building as being composed of multiple "buildings" in Alpha Strike, but the rules do not require it.  Physically removing from play a part of a single building that is usually a single terrain "object" is problematic. So it's left up to the players to define what is a separate AS building.

"In fact, this makes large buildings easier to destroy in AS.."
AS buildings are much tougher in AS relative to other units though. A Heavy building in TW is around 75 CF.  The same Heavy building in AS is 25 CF.  The CF is only divided by 3, where 'mech and other units' armor is divided by 30. Compare that 75 CF building to an Atlas's 308 armor in TW.  Then compare the 25 CF to the Atlas' 10 armor in AS.  TW would need to have to be 7-9 hexes of buildings before it matched the toughness of a single AS building.  (And that's exactly what AS buildings, based on Battleforce buildings, are doing.  They represent an entire BattleForce hex, which is 7 TW hexes, of buildings.)
